Get outta town! A sad announcement today from a once great heritage railway now all but struggling to keep its head above water. One I spent my early high-school years volunteering for, riding the trains from the baggage car souvenir table. The open baggage doors letting in the sounds and smells of the RS11 is something I'll remember well.
Overpaid management for a nonprofit and the township at their throats with getting things up to code in a losing battle against a local government who's made it clear they want them gone. The YDHR plans to move elsewhere but being connected to Metrolinx, the odds of most of their equipment getting out of there is low. Their slough of bad luck, covid shut downs and the director's raking in 6 figures keeping them in the red, any expensive move doesn't seem so plausible in it's current state. Only time will tell what happens, but here's to the memories it gave me.
As always, an infrequent gym post. Sorry for long time followers who expect to see content....just very busy lately and it's hard to even just catch up with friends.
Since I'll be the guide (as always, J's driving and I say left or right) I figured it would be a good time to get to know the countries better. Bill told me a lot of cool things about Australia, some of which we could already prove to be correct, and the Rough Guides always come in handy.

The new Get Smart movie is now being shown in theaters. This, of course, was based on the original TV series, Get Smart which aired from 1965 to 1970. One of my favorite all time sitcoms, it starred Don Adams as Maxwell Smart. Long before the modern day cell phone was invented, Smart used an analog rotary dial wireless telephone which he had neatly hidden in the soul of his shoe. I like to think of Maxwell Smart as the world's first person to use a cell phone, some 30 years before anyone else.
Don Adams (1923-2005) was an actor and stand-up comedian. His album, Don Adams, Live? was recorded live at the Sands in Las Vegas in 1967.
With Joshua still with us today there was plenty of opportunity to get a shot of one of his friends .... some of them just wouldn't sit still!

SOO train 911 leans into the grade leaving Trout Lake with an old veteran leading a couple of young pups on January 30, 1980. 726 along with 4428 and 4435 have 95 cars and just over 8700 tons. At the time 4435 was the highest numbered SOO GP38-2 but more would be coming in summer 1980. The temperature was 0 and the wind was straight out of the north at 15mph when I shot this one. A brisk morning to be out taking photos and I made a beeline for the house as soon as I gave him a roll by.

After crossing the deceptively fast flowing Hopkins River, I approached Hopkins Falls, a short drive from Warrnambool. Having accidentally forgotten/broken/disabled/misplaced all my tripods during previous seascaping or shooting in Melbourne the day before, I was forced to get down low and rest the camera on rocks for long exposures. On one such composition I noticed a large animal rib propped against a foreground rock.

China clay is dropped into the rear wagon at Par docks. Not sure how much gets wasted with the clouds of dust emitted. Once these wagons are loaded the train will roll forward pick up one of the pairs of wagons onto the back of the four and back up for loading before repeating with the other pair, or maybe two pairs. Getting to a full train load is a steady process, taking several hours and involving quite a bit of back and forth. Best viewed large..

The day was filled with getting use to a Pentax K5 and shooting from a blind. Found a lot of functions I had never used before. What a great day.
[3/100] One of my favorite places to take photographs. There is a trail close to my home that I decided to check out..It goes way back into the woods to an old railroad bridge (which is NOT in use & half rotted).. When I drive by the lake I can way across the water and see this bridge.. Sometimes you'll see multiple people on the half of the bridge that is still standing.. fishing.
The actual dirt road that you have to follow to get to this beautiful spot is ROUGH!
Juan dropped me off and stayed in the car, I told him I was going to go walk and take some photos and I'd be right back.
WELL!! (lol!) The trail was SUPER long & beautiful. It was low tide so our lake/river (i'm not sure what it's considered) was shallow and almost dried up.. it'll fill up at high tide.
However the dirt road has huge deep water filled holes all down the lane.. Our Honda Civic would have never made it past the 1st one.. (there were MANY). I had to almost climb around some of them.. I sunk a few times in soft sand under the pine needles. It was a beautiful sight.. I took a good bit of photos... (gorgeous). Lots of reflections.. shadows.. nature.. and solitude.
There was NOBODY out there. Just me. So quiet and beautiful. I will definatly be going back one day soon! It's amazing! So glad that we finally went back there (behind the lake) to try to find the access to that beautiful abandoned bridge.

This photo is one I liked a lot. Reflections and shadows.. (including mine) in one of those huge mud puddles in the center of the road.
I like the way it turned out.
My back was hurting so bad yesterday/last night/ and this morning. I had to go to physical therapy for my normal visits (twice a week)..I was in so much pain. I suppose I lifted one of the double trays of home made Italian sausage (we're famous for our sausage!) I probably lifted it wrong, my PT said.
She told me that WHEN I do lift I have to try my best to focus on lifting with my legs/core.. not my arms.
She did some shock treatment.. massage.. & then I did some work outs. I feel much better than I did yesterday.
I was so upset yesterday when that horrible pain came back.. I was so afraid that I was going to have to start all over again with my physical therapy, because that's how bad it felt.
I just have to remember to be careful when lifting.. and make sure I do not lift the heavy meat trays.. just ask someone else to grab it for me.
>I hate to ask people for things or for help. But, it looks like I'm going to have to ask people from now on!!
