For photographers who want to go hiking without taking a lot of gear, the iPhone is a godsend. Not only are the maps and GPS apps useful, but the iPhone camera is a powerful photographic tool that eliminates the need to carry a lot of gear in most cases. Trouble is, as anyone knows who has snapped an iPhone picture in the woods on a sunny day, the 5mp camera is no match for the high-contrast dynamic range of the dappled lighting under the trees, let alone the extremely fine detail that surrounds you on all sides.
There are fixes for these problems, though, as this photo taken and processed this afternoon in the Edgewood College woods entirely on my iPhone shows. First, I turned on the camera's HDR function, which really tamed the shadows in the 7 overlapping images that I took. Then I imported them into AutoStitch for the iPhone and stitched them together, creating a large 5516x3042 file (16.8mp -- not bad for a cellphone). That took care of the fine detail. Then I imported it into the Snapseed photo editing app to tweak color balance and open up some of the remaining shadow detail a bit. And then I uploaded the 8.2mb file directly to Flickr from Snapseed over a wifi connection.
To see more detail scroll through the Large (2048-1129px) size. Or check out the Original (5516x3042px) size to inspect the really fine detail. In the latter, you'll see a bit of fuzziness here and there. Some of that is from the breeze during the twin exposures of each HDR image, and some is from the stitching process. But the result is still far sharper than any single cell phone camera image could be.

BUILDING ENDURANCE AND EFFICIENCY
Opportunity knocks once at every man’s door. No one knows exactly when and where. But it will. It’s up to the person whether he’ll hold on to it or let it slip through his fingers.
All physical endeavors demand a firm fitness base. To perform efficiently, one should have adequate muscular strength and stamina, above-average flexibility exercise, appropriate body weight and body composition movement and specific type and level of endurance in preparation of the events.
Climbing/Trekking, a sport that gives a premium to agility, speed, technique and power, is of no exception. Need to be able to move around the ground with ease, carrying our body efficiently to any point on the ground to execute appropriate walks as needed. They should be able do this consistent by throughout the climb/trek events without a dip in their performances, displaying stamina and endurance relative to the intensity and duration of the events.
Endurance is governed by training; it is a power sport requires more than engaging in continuous, long-duration exercise like walking, jogging, running and biking in developing “endurance”.
Efficiency requires the development of power endurance and speed endurance – in that order!
THE GLIMPSE OF THE ADVENTURE
Mt. Apo, the country’s highest peak, provides an inspiring backdrop to the city, arising 9,692 feet from the rich fertile lands of Davao City, Davao del Sur and North Cotabato. In its slopes, burgeoned with rain forests, a paradise of waterfalls and springs inhabits the endangered Philippine Eagle.
Conquering Mt. Apo peak is known to the natives as the kingdom of the mountain god, Apo Sandawa, Mt. Apo is also the home of the Philippines’ rarest orchids, plants, birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and butterflies. It is also a favorite climb site of foreign and local mountaineers.
Lake Venado located at the foot of Mt Apo; it is... the highest lake in the country, est. surface elevation of 7,200ft or 2,194m above sea level!

On a wet showery day with
heavy downpours I returned to Castlerigg Stone Circle. This is the complete opposite of a Disney Attraction in that there are just stones no souvenir shop or anything to buy. So visitors come in a steady stream tend to snap there shots , children play on the stones and are gone within 15 mins.
There are 40 stones in a circle approximately 30 metres in diameter. . It was probably built around 3000 BC – the beginning of the later Neolithic Period – and is one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and Europe.
With fantastic panoramic views all around on a good day it is worth spending some time just relaxing here and wondering why it was built as no one really knows.

the girls getting ready before a party. this is typical. strange customs, but lovely girlish culture, i think. there are some things about highschool that are still endearing.
...get another one stuck right beside it. I didn't want to draw attention to their failure, because I knew if I did, my driveway would be forever plugged...
Seriously, the one on the right slid into the guardrail backwards, getting stuck. The second one tried to pull it out. Eventually, a guy from the city with a Super Duper Shovel got them out...
This one should be taking flight any day now! He /She was getting off the nest just a couple of inches and then coming back down.
The hotel does not keep their rental bikes well maintained at all: the first bike I chose had a front derailleur that did not change any gears at all, and a rear derailleur that made contact with the wheel spokes.
Charlie and I wait for one of the Malay staff to come back with a pump to inflate the tires to a pressure suitable for adults to ride.
All the bikes were way too small for me, and as it turns out I broke the pedal off the one I got halfway into the ride.
