This was the start of the remotest section of my journey as I headed up from Hawick and went over the top to Ettrick and then up-and-over into Eskdale. The photo is looking back towards Hawick direction, just before topping out and descending to Alemoor Reservoir.

Seki was the 47th stop along the old Tōkaidō road and was home to about 200 buildings, many of which have been wonderfully preserved, making the post town look like it is stuck in time. As I visited when the weather was terrible because of a typhoon, I really want to get back to this place. It really is wonderful. Although Seki is a part of the town of Kamiyama, Seki is where the real action is if you are traveling along the old Tōkaidō in search of glimpses of old Japan.
