As the sun starts to go down and the shadows get longer, 1293041 and 1293044 make their way through Muhlbachl with a scrap train heading up the gradient towards Brenner. The train wasn't fully loaded as odd wagons through the formation were empty.

For anyone familiar with 1293041, they will know it is absolutely plastered in graffiti right now - an increasingly common problem with OBB locos - so a big effort in PS to eliminate ;-)

The Canna Lily is one of my favorite flowers to shoot.

I am not a "flower photographer", but I do enjoy the challenge of getting a good flower shot. And while I don’t always know what kind of flower I am shooting, on a good day, I can usually tell a rose from a daisy.

now is the time to gather up and let your teammates know you are ready to play and spirits area running high for both teams, at this point, just before the game starts (the opening kickoff).

This is an image that I have had in mind for a while. I saw a similar photo a while ago and wanted to have my own try at it. I wanted to put my touch on it and this is what I came up with. We went out in the AM to photograph other parts of the park and noticed a large thunderstorm over in this part of the park. I saw that there was a small window between the clouds and I knew that htis could be the photo I was trying to get! We were able to drive out to this area during a heavy thunderstorm and we were really cutting it short - the clouds were moving quickly and I didn't want to miss my opportunity. As we rounded a corner, BAM - stopped by a flagger! We sat there for what felt like an eternity, which was probably around 10 minutes or so. After they let us through, I rushed to my spot and set up as fast as I could. What was tricky now was how slippery the ground had become. It made me a bit nervous to be standing on the ledge like that with some slippery mud beneath my feet. That said, I was still (barely) able to get my shot in! I was so happy to get some decent light just before it faded out. The wet earth here really makes the color pop and the clouds in the back really added to the mood. I think this image ended up being about 14 images stacked together to make a larger focus stacked panoramic image. The full resolution image is about 200 MP in total. It was a lot of fun to get this image and I really hope you all can enjoy it as much as I do!

Whether one thinks of this guy as ugly or beautiful, I think that he makes an interesting close up subject.

The next day the weather was better and after a good breakfast at the "Hotel Steel" we got to work fresh. We managed to get at least one good picture on the south side of the complex, but it is clear that we wanted more. After a double check by the Ochrona, we positioned ourselves near the oxygen station and waited there in the din of the huge facilities. Two Qarmet locomotives were active at the same time and posed for us: TEM2UM-907 was shunting scrap for the steel converter, while TEM1-1697 was moving into the plant. Under the bridge, i.e. below us, the Ochrona was active and checking the fence. We noticed very clearly that we were not welcome and went in search of another place.

So I took this one in December last year but its taken me ages to get around to getting it edited and finally uploaded. I've still got thousands of photos from the last few years to go through and hopefully I'll start to make a dent on them before long, but am sure I've thought that a few times before and I've still got a massive backlog ;)

Getting more difficult to find shots around here.

Fuji X-E3 plus Samyang tele lens (fixed at F6.3). This mirror reflex lens has something in common with the Hubble and the James-Webb Space Telescopes, at least the basic mirror technology. Whereas these space telescopes have a fabulous resolution, the same can not be said of this lens. Still, the images produced with this lens can be satisfying (as long as magnification is not expected).

My buddy Jim Salge and I hiked to Victor Head to shoot the foliage. Unfortunately there is a tree right in the middle of the rock outcropping making it difficult to get a clean pano. So to get this shot: flic.kr/p/zyesAu we used our tripod as a camera boom. This is him getting his version of the shot.

This was shot April 14, 1980 on a dreary Upper Peninsula day. The 4407 and 720 had struggled up the grade from Marquette with 15 cars on the wet rail and had been held at this signal for an eastbound CNW ore load out of Euclid Yard. Once the CNW cleared the Soo got the light and is starting west again. A rescan.

Sometimes the conditions we deal with no matter how tough or easy doesn't matter much in the end. What really matters it seems is "Did You Get" what you wanted or did you get what you needed.
