We can get some awful weather up here and have some real clunkers of days even in the summer. I ran out in a thunderstorm and stood under a big maple for this poor shot of a lone F working the local west on June 17, 1977. Ya I know its not smart standing under a tree in a thunderstorm but damn it was an F and I wasn't there long:).

2225-B scoots along with 7 cars while the crew give me an amused look...."hey look, there's Chuck out in a thunderstorm shooting pictures":). Sorry about the grainy garbage shot but it is F-unit Friday.

So I took this one in December last year but its taken me ages to get around to getting it edited and finally uploaded. I've still got thousands of photos from the last few years to go through and hopefully I'll start to make a dent on them before long, but am sure I've thought that a few times before and I've still got a massive backlog ;)

Prickly pear cactus are hard to identify even while blooming, but I have taken pictures of this plant while blooming. My best guess is Texas prickly pear (Opuntia engelmannii var. lindheimeri).

My objective here was to get the points in tack sharp focus and have enough depth of field have the glochidia sharp with the texture of the pad.

Getting more difficult to find shots around here.

To get a great shot of a snake, you gotta get down low, become part of its perspective. You gotta be willing to mess up your pants. Too many shots of snakes are taken from too high up. I admit it is slightly unnerving to get down nose to nose with a snake but this was a bored, harmless Gopher Snake. We hung out together for ten minutes or so and he barely moved.

No one else gonna get it like that....

"Get Down on It" Week Continues! A 7-day celebration of looking down our noses at our subjects, much like King Henry VIII did.

Painting: Chicago was thunderstorming all day yesterday, so I spent the morning in the corner of my studio where I go to paint, but mostly I watched the rain pelt the windows. Ahhhhhhh. Well, you know what happened next: a click of the shutter...then a nap. :)

My talented friend Kim also shot paint brushes yesterday, because great creative minds think alike. :)

A little westie getting a drink from a water spigot as a schnauzer puppy waits his turn.

Prompt: Ultra-realistic digital fine art illustration of a heartwarming garden scene. A fluffy West Highland White Terrier puppy and a playful Salt and Pepper Schnauzer puppy sit together near an old-fashioned water spigot attached to a brick wall. A small wooden bucket sits below, overflowing slightly as water pours from the tap. The Westie puppy eagerly laps at the falling stream of water, while the Schnauzer puppy curiously leans in, watching with bright, expressive eyes. Surrounding them are wildflowers and soft greenery bathed in golden sunlight. The walkway path glistens with splashes of water, adding realism and charm.

Sometimes the conditions we deal with no matter how tough or easy doesn't matter much in the end. What really matters it seems is "Did You Get" what you wanted or did you get what you needed.
