This is from a series I am making for the Washoe County Libraries. The book here is a Western novel, "Shane". look closely at the book cover in the large version... Mother Nature was working with us that day.

One of the gates into the most contaminated areas of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. This section of the abandoned base is the dirtiest superfund site in America.
In 2004, I was granted night access to the long forgotten and neglected, Hunters Point, Naval Shipyard. Over the course of 5 consecutive full moons I photographed in every corner of the nearly 500 acre facility. Originally opened as a commercial shipyard in 1870, the land was seized by the US military in 1942 and transformed into a vital repair base during WWII. The Navy closed the base in 1974 and most of the area has remained uninhabited ever since.
Stories of widespread radioactive contamination, it's location in one of the most crime-ridden neighborhoods in San Francisco and many locked and patroled gates have kept the base out of the public eye for decades. There are dozens of abandoned buildings. Warehouses, offices and drydock pumphouses, some dating all the way back to 1870. These are some of the oldest buildings in San Francisco, just abandoned and forgotten. Giant gantry cranes stand rusting alongside the broken and flooded drydocks. On the hill above the dockyards stands a residential neighborhood. Built in the 1920s and 30s and seized by the Navy for officers housing, it has also stood abandoned for 30 years. The streets look like a post apocalyptic movie set. The entire relic strewn base is just minutes from the downtown of one of the west coast's largest cities.
For "Get Pushed!" I was paired with skippys1229 - who has a great photostream, check out his macros in particular. His push to me was a head-and-shoulders portrait.
I cheated a bit here, but it's still above-the-waist. The artist is himself working on a series of portraits in mixed media.

Boxes 2 and 3 came yesterday in the mail and this was what was inside. Looks like I've got some reading to do quickly before more come. Luckily some not very long. I do have to write reviews for each of the them though. Blah.

Thanks to Cindy and Halle for the invite. Thanks to the folks at Get Satistfaction and Songbird for hosting. And, of course, the peeps at Terra.
This was my spare camera as my D200 is broken and I didn't realize I could have shot the Leica. Since my D70 L bracket is on loan, the flash was handheld which made AF, flash, nearly everything inconsistent.

So yesterday I caught a flight from Richmond to Orlando, and I'm uploading this photo from Daytona Beach, Florida! I'm here on vacation with my girlfriend and her wonderful family.
Quick story; while we were sitting pretty awaiting our flight at RIC, central Richmond and surrounding small towns were getting HAMMERED with terrible weather. Hail, strong winds and even a few tornados. A lot of Richmond lost power, apparently it was crazy. The airport literally got a few raindrops.
Also, quick fact, I HATE flying.
The idea was simply to get coffee at Makai, but the weekend had not involved nearly enough activity; so I decided to start on foot and rendezvous with others somewhere downstream.

Sorry for the overload of wedding shots (more to come) but as I took nearly 2000 photos, it kinda left me with no choice :-)
Be sure to check KeepSix.Com for the rest of the photos from the House of Paint jam. I will be posting additional photos in the coming days here on Flickr.
I am just out of my night currency so I needed to be on the ground before that sun went down. Proper flight planning helps a lot though I will be honest...a flight like this doesn't require much to pull off.
This white-tail buck is getting tired as he chases a doe at full-speed.. He's just jumped a fence and continued the fast chase for a few minutes while I watched. They went out of sight.
