Didn't manage to get a clear enough view of the fireworks on Epsom Downs as every person around was parked up 3 deep and all along the grass merges of the main road watching the starts, pretty much chaos, so decided to head back home. On the way back out of the corner of my eye I saw that there was a gap in the hedgerow along the road and a chance to get some pictures but they were too far away and just finishing but just at the very moment I was about to turn get back in the car I noticed across the field that there was a large pile of timber with a bunch of people standing just away from it looking as if they were gathering for something and then within a minute... ROAR, an inferno had been born!
Just shows you never know when an opportunity will come along...

I've been away from the computer for most of the past week because my wrist and arm have been all sore and tingly. A doctor's appointment revealed that I've got tendinitis, so I get to wear a thumb splint for at least a week and a tennis elbow arm band whenever I work.
"Oh good," teased Rama. "I've always wanted to be married to a gimp."
For the past two years at exactly this time, I have gotten a hernia and had to spend my subsequent summer in and out of hospitals getting surgery. This year, I am finally hernia free which is so wonderful I can barely put it into words.
This one should be taking flight any day now! He /She was getting off the nest just a couple of inches and then coming back down.
Geneva’s biggest celebration is L’Escalade (www.escalade.ch), commemorating the failed attempt by the Duke of Savoy to seize the town by surprise on the night of December 11–12, 1602. Locals dress up in costume and parade by torchlight around the streets with drums and fifes, groups of kids sing in city-centre cafés, and confectioner’s sell the Marmite d’Escalade, a small pot made of chocolate and filled with marzipan “vegetables” to commemorate a Genevan housewife who dispatched a Savoyard soldier by tipping her boiling soup over his head from a high window. A few days before is the Course d’Escalade, a fun-run through town.
These 2 mallards decided to get it on within a couple of feet of me. He was really biting the top of her head. He promptly jumped back into the water while she was visibly shaking and stayed on the bank for some time.
Decided i wanted to take a 365 with Bella when I got home from work today...i was orginally going to do it in the backyard, however looney tunes' dogs were out there and would have knocked over my camera. So we went out into the front yard. I tired a few pics with her on the leash and decided that she was doing so well at staying close by in the yard, i would unleash her. This was the best i could do on a 12 sec timer.....for the most part she got bored of sitting next to me after 8 secs and would start to walk off.
Which brings me to tomorrow....my parents are coming by my work to see me and bring me my....REMOTE!!!!! This is going to make self portrait taking SO much easier!!! I am excited :)

Be sure to stick around for the city's infamous water parade where fire trucks blast on-lookers with hoses and those on the curbside fight back with water guns of their own. Be prepared to get soaked!

I challenge you to take three of your favorite things (or a representation of) and compose a lovely still-life. You can light and process it as you wish, but it should be representative of your personality and style. "
I first had to think of three (notice how I scored a couple of extras?) favorite things. I hope it's a lovely still-life. I looked at the project as a story. In the year 2035 a grandchild is given a very old leather suitcase. The story she is told: this suitcase belonged to your great-grandmother, and years ago your grandmother treated it like a time capsule and packed away three (or four) things that had meaning for her. There is a letter, hand-written, that tells a bit about your grandmother, but she hoped that these objects would give you a broader picture of what was important to her and what were some things that shaped her life. Inside the suitcase the grandchild found: a wedding photo in a silver frame, an old toy car, a photo of three young adults, a bald doll, and a yellowed school schedule of some sort. The grandchild took them out, examined them, and pieced together significant pieces from the life of her aging grandmother. Whether the child was correct will never matter. What is important is that she held the objects and gave them life again.

In the early 19th. century, what was to become Malaysia was still a scattering of newly formed outposts down Malaya's west coast, later to become known as the Straits Settlements. The British were still probing their way past Borneo through the South China Sea towards China and the yet to be formed Colony of Hong Kong.
In these early days, young James Brooke of the British East India Company found himself appointed as an adviser to the Sultan of Brunei. The Sultan himself had little control over enormous areas of his lands, and James Brooke was continually warring against his opponents.
As a reward for suppressing a particularly dangerous revolt, the Sultan made James 'Rajah' ('King') of a grant of land far to the west, in 1841. A single river and its tributaries was the only form of travel through the dense jungle, and James Brooke found himself having to get past the fierce and brave Sea Dyaks at its mouth before being able to base his headquarters upriver at the village of Kuching.
Then followed a long series of river wars to include the equally proud inland Iban headhunters within his new lands. James Brooke's original land grant continually expanded until it dwarfed the Sultan's own territory! Thus was born Sarawak.
Still in James' personal ownership, and as news of this remarkable area began filtering out to the British in adjoining areas, Sarawak became better known, and James became known as the 'White Rajah'! Indeed, in 1850 the USA recognised Sarawak as an independent state — as did even the British, in 1864! On his death, James' nephew Charles Brooke took over the 'crown', to be followed by Charles' son, Charles Vyner Brooke
It was not until after World War II, when the occupying Japanese had left, that it was decided that the time for such 'White Rajah' personal empires had passed. Charles Vyner Brooke abdicated and Sarawak at long last became a 'proper' British Crown Colony, in 1946.
In 1963 Sarawak then became a part of — and the largest territory within — the new Malaysia.
