Kansas Skies

An old schoolhouse captured under the Milky Way, deep in the countryside. Even still, small towns nearby, added a bunch of light pollution.

Nice commentary on Inukshuk or cairns posted by Large Format film photographer Ben Horne.

About a year ago, I was exploring out around Linfield when I found a view of the Limerick Generating Station cooling towers that I really liked. I've posted these before but since then, I always thought it would be nice to get the moon in between these towers.

Now, I'm not very good at planning anything and any decent moonshots you see of mine are often the result of being invited out to shoot something that has already been planned by someone else. However, last night, I did plan out this shot using the @photopills app (because it's what I have) and the alignment was essentially spot on. Since I've never really used this app extensively and still don't even fully understand it though, while the moon rose and ascended exactly where I wanted it, I basically blew it one way or the other in terms of poorly pre-planning my shot.

That said, I took plenty of long exposures of this scene including this one with the moon directly behind the right tower vapor plume which I feel is still a fine substitute for not getting the moon shot I was shooting for.

The sun pops out after last night’s snowstorm. Light breezes push the powdery snow from the thin limbs and create a chain reaction looking somewhat like a mini avalanche.

Colors were so nice that we took a little photo safari right in our own backyard. Alas, the sky was so overcast that most of my images turned out looking flat white. This one, though, had a bit of cloud interest. Except for a challenging sky, it was a perfect autumn day.

One of the prettiest Corn Snakes I've seen in North Florida. I don't photograph them very often, but this one deserved it.

This is the view from Deer Creek Trail. I'm looking down into some tributaries feeding into the Deer Creek Reservoir. I was hoping to see a sunrise but as everybody knows, just because you hike up doesn't mean nature has to comply.
