This hidden gem wouldn't be seen by the everyday walker and the only reason that I found it was due to the local farmer. If you look at the top of the bridge you will see it is covered in grass and at the same level as the bridle path so you don't actually know that you are walking over this charming little bridge ..... it would be lovely to think that I am the first to photograph it in all it's long history - so it remains my secret place for the time being.

This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope observation has captured the galaxy CGCG 396-2, an unusual multi-armed galaxy merger which lies around 520 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Orion.
This observation is a gem from the Galaxy Zoo project, a citizen science project involving hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world who classified galaxies to help scientists solve a problem of astronomical proportions: how to sort through the vast amounts of data generated by telescopes. A public vote selected the most astronomically intriguing objects for follow-up observations with Hubble. CGCG 396-2 is one such object, imaged here by Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys.

A bit of sun breaking through the fog for a brief moment at the top of Gem Lake.
Nine months ago I was returning from campout in Big Sur with my friend Birdo. We had spent the past 48 hours shooting the Milky Way, and wildflowers in the Los Padres National Forest.
Driving home exhausted, I began getting a really bad headache. I kept driving, but eventually I had to pull over and get some Advil out of my bag. After finding the pills, we noticed beautiful drifts of Lupines and California Poppies along the bluffs. We hopped a barbed wire fence and began investigating, and exploring. As we walked to the edge of the cliff, we saw this rock formation down a steep ravine. I noticed the crack in the middle of the formation, and saw the similarity to Pfeiffer Beach. I told Birdo to mark this spot on the GPS, and I'll look at the TPE when we get home.
Yesterday we returned to the spot, and found a way down to the water. The hole in the rock was really thin, but it did produce a beam of light. There is always a learning curve when you come to a spot for the first time, and I look forward to getting to know this spot better in the future. The surrounding coastline was beautiful with lots of possibilities.
This shot probably doesn't rock your world, but It feels good to have discovered something fresh on the California Coast. It gives me hope of finding more undiscovered hidden gems.

#6215 - 2025 Day 5/365: Strange contrasts at the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza. When fully opened it will be one of the biggest museums anywhere and is dedicated entirely to ancient Egyptian history. As an experience I would say it is not quite on par with the Egyptian Civilisation museum in Cairo, where the Royal Mummies are. But a must do, for sure.
