Sadly, trash is a problem in paradise. Garbage is dumped in fields and is sometimes burned. The locals don't seem concerned with how litter taints such a beautiful natural landscape.

Our garbage dumpster is all the way at the end of that path, and trying to lift a 50 gallon garbage can full of disgusting wet garbage when the ground is frozen is an exercise in futility. And you have to take a shower, and the stink never goes away

I think this is a canary - perched on this box that was in a garbage can. I was rather pleased with this shot considering it was taken at a weird angle - through the bus window.
Its hard not to question the reverence of cows seeing sites like this all the time.
As I previously mentioned, cows are somewhat sacred amongst the people (no beef here!). They are used for their milk and some may be put to work in farms. However, when they no longer serve a purpose, they are released into street, where they are forced to find their own meals.
Its common to see them picking through garbage for a morsel to eat, and often line the center of roads with cars and bikes traveling within a few inches of them.
I'm not saying to slaugter them after their purpose expires, but their life is far more difficult. Maybe continued support? Although that'd be hard to justify when the people themselves are hungry...
Even in exotic locations like Bhutan, someone has to take out the trash. The narrow streets and challenging passing maneuvers made watching the process, uh... interesting.
