Functional art: the painted service station attendant in this mural on the side of a Chevron station in Kanab, Utah also serves to hold the hose for the air compressor.
A most excellent and powerful air compressor, by the way! Tops up the tires in no time!

The 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum community gathered to mark the opening of the Mountain Functional Fitness Facility here on post. The MFFF is just one part of a broad based effort by the Command Staff to improve fitness facilities and options for our Soldiers and Families.

my brain feels empty.

A functional floating arm trebuchet. I was too busy taking pictures of other stuff in the exhibit hall to see it in action.
This unique and functional fruit bowl is decorated in a symmetrical circle of trees.
Crafted from red terracotta clay and hand thrown on the potter's wheel. Each tree and leaf was hand cut and meticulously softened so there are no sharp edges.
As long as I can remember I have had a fascination with line quality. The way in which a simple tapered line creates the illusion as though the line is moving toward as well as away from you. Painters and drawers rely on these subtleties of line to mimic a 3 dimensional perception on a 2 dimensional medium.
In ceramics we create 3 dimensional forms that can only be viewed from one "side" at a time. It is through touch and use that one can embrace the fullness of a functional piece of pottery.
By carving away the walls of my wares I am playing with line quality as well as variations of shadow and light. I have attempted to bring the eye into and through the bowl, to go beyond the basic contours of form. These wares are an exploration of my vision and a test to go beyond the barriers and limitations of ceramics. I have poured my heart and soul into these wares and I look forward to the continuation of the challenge.
This bowl is covered in a semi transparent light turquoise glaze that highlights the red edging. The bottom of this piece has a recessed foot ring and it is signed with my "Trish the fish" stamp.
Measures 9" wide and 2 3/4" tall.

a wonderfully functional and stylish hair accessory that will be good to you all year long. Perfect for those chilly summer nights, windy boat rides, brisk mornings, even keeps your hair dry on rainy days. Wool naturally breathes to keep you cool in the heat, dry in the wet and ultra toasty in the cold.
The hand spun and hand dyed artisan yarn used in this band is made by Abby of Folktale.etsy.com from chemical free merino cross. So super soft and buttery smooth with light lofty goodness. From my original free-form crochet headband patterns I sculpted a masterpiece and fulled the wool in hot water and eco-friendly soap.
The Raimbow Tree is appliqued to one end of the band using all 100% wool felt bits and delicate machine embroidery. Accompanying the tree is a crescent moon and a single star.
Secures around your head with two long felted ties that you can tie up or let dangle down your back.
Hand wash cold water only if needed :)
Had social networking meetings all day with Jonas and Joe A. re: platform migration and functionality.
Julie went to a Women In Media panel and networking event with Sarah, Caryn and Marilyn that she said was awesome, so I had dinner with Mary since it was so late and she was at the latter part of the meeting. We went to Won Jo in K-Town and had a ton of barbeque! Mmmm. I had eight raw cloves of garlic and man, do I
reek—Julie can attest to that. (But it was worth it! I was almost looking forward to that more than the beef... almost.)
I took Movie for a longer walk when I got home, because we'd both been gone all day, and she walked all the way down to 77th Street and Columbus, and went right up the steps to Justin and Mary's old building. Cute, but sad. How do you explain to a dog that her best friends moved to Brooklyn... three years ago?
Jules and I watched In Treatment, and then I spent the rest of the night watching random things we tivoed (like Survivor and LA Ink), while sort of writing in a half-assed way. I've managed to keep up with the pages (I'm basically on page 20), but these last three days of "writing" have basically been cut-and-paste days, and I'm not really proud of it. Oh well.
On the way home, I saw this guy sitting next to me with these gigantic looking shoes. And of course it made me think of the ridiculously awful youtube video that Justin and Mary (mainly Justin) enjoy so much. It—incredibly—has been viewed over 13 million times. So I took a picture. And now I'll rather reluctantly post a link:

It's one of the few videos that I think actually deserves the name "viral," because it kind of gets stuck in your head, in a way not entirely unlike the flu.

How mesmerizing.

This bag is designed specifically for the breastfeeding mother, and all others who have less to carry than the full time bottle feeding mother. This bag is extremely durable. It features 5 interior pockets and 3 exterior pockets. Its simple design is perfect for accessing whatever you need in a hurry. Plus, the beautiful Amy Butler fabric means you don't have to compromise style for functionality. Why have only one when you can have them both?!
Fully functional. In the field next to my parent's house. Was pulling a hay baler. So a quick Google search reveals this model of tractor was made 1967-1971. Since I remember seeing this tractor in use in the mid-seventies as a child, I suspect it's been in operation by the farm up the street since it's purchase around the time it was made.
On top of Turnstone's simple but elegant furniture, you might notice some of the other design features in our store. For instance, all of our lighting is the latest LED technology from Juno Lighting and Solais. Solais makes dimmable LED lighting which is powerful enough to use in a retail environment and energy efficient at the same time. Not visible is our speakers from KEF, who provide incredible sound from above.

This immature White-banded Fishing Spider, Dolomedes albineus, was hardly hampered by having lost a leg, and it will likely regenerate the appendage with its next molt. It was hanging out at our front porch light the night of May 6, 2023, and I wonder it is the same one I saw last year, a little older and larger. Leavenworth, Kansas, USA.

Mr Fox is a multi functional fox. No one's ever managed to put a figure to exactly how many talents he has, but even Mrs PB concedes it might be more than the number of beans she can fit in her stomach!
One of these immeasurable capabilities is his ability to solve any Rubik's cube in less than 30 seconds. Give him another 10 seconds and he can do it using nothing but his tail. Another 5 and he can do it standing on one paw!
Anyhow, hoping the same technicoloured block might help Mrs PB hone both her patience and reasoning skills, Mr Fox assigned her the puzzle for tonight's homework.
She didn't really know what all the fuss was about. A screw driver, quite a lot of glue,a couple of expletives, and a few spillages later and she was done. Mr Fox was seriously impressed, until that is he tried to have a go!
