Single exposure with reflections. We were sitting near the window with the patio outside. I took a photograph from our table looking out at the patio and the street beyond, with the rest of the brewery reflected in the window.

The bridge and the mist

Once it gets past the unstable ground of the slide area, the trail descends via switchbacks to the level of the old canal and railbed and continues on under the new railroad bridge spanning the gorge just above the Upper Falls.

Rather than descending I continued on to just below the east end of the bridge, a place I had not been before. Directly across from me is a support structure from the old bridge left there as a memorial.

Friday, April 25. Walked trail 7 along the east rim of the river valley. It was a rainy, misty day, about 45F.

Back to shooting with the Ondu 135 pinhole camera, quite a switch from the huge negatives with the 6x12.

Forest gateway

Developed Saturday, scanned yesterday. I have photographed this spot several times; I wanted to see how it would work with the new camera, both wide and tall. I will post the tall version Wednesday. Of the six frames on the roll, two were from the 28th, three from March 7, and one at Charlotte Tavern in between. I have come to the conclusion that this camera wants to be outside. Exposed this set at ASA 800, which was still too fast for the camera. Next time out I will load it with Kentmere 100 and expose at ASA 200.

Last Friday in February. Letchworth State Park. I hike on mud, dry leaves, glare ice, and everything in between. I was very glad for the Microspikes. It would have been dangerous without them.

Warrior on the table.

After my abbreviated hike I stopped at Wolf Creek Glenn, where I have taken many photographs, intending to finish the roll.

I saw a young woman doing yoga on a stone picnic table, beautifully illuminated from behind. I watched from a spot where I assumed she could see me and, when she came to a good stopping place, asked if I could take a couple photographs. She happily agreed.

She introduced herself as Jessica; I gave her one of my cards.

Back under the bridge.

All in all, I paddled about five miles that day. I took millstream fork instead of the main channel, paddling up through the wetlands, under two bridges, and into Ellison Park. My way was soon blocked by deadfalls across the narrowing creek. I turned around paddled under the two bridges and back into the wetlands.

Hiking the Power Line Trail at Letchworth State Park. The trail meanders back and forth across the power line cut from the road to the top of the bluff by the Genesee River. Here the trail paralleled the power line in the woods. It was a lovely day.

A couple weeks ago at Letchworth State Park. I parked the car at the east side Hogsback Overlook. I walked south along the Finger Lakes Trail until sunset then headed back. There had been some sunshine earlier in the day but it was mostly overcast by time I got to Letchworth.

Beauty in unlikely places

Deadfall, lying along the trail

across the the trail actually.

I could have scrambled over or under

but the trail had rerouted itself

so they let it lie where it lay

and I could easily walk on by.

They did trim the branches

for which I was grateful.

An ugly thing I suppose

dead and down and mottled

left to rot.

And yet. And yet.

The leaves on the path

and the light just so

through the trees further on

their leaves still dancing

and a stump to steady the camera.

I had to take a picture.

Beauty in us, too, perhaps

unlikely places that we are

for which I am grateful.

Easter Sunday, up from the darkness, light.

The tomb is empty, Christ is alive.

The next day, what now?

I live, but not I.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

That particular verse has been niggling at me for much of my life. No, I don't have it figured out. But the older I get the more I understand at least a little of it.
