In Bosnia-Herzegovina the railway is playing only a very secondary role. So we were very lucky to see this freight train between the few passenger trains in the Bosna Valley near Begov Han. Notwithstanding that minor role Bosnia has two railway companies! This green loco is one of the railway of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The slovenian Railway SŽ all years tried to provide a seasonal summer express train from Ljubljana to the croatian peninsula Istria. The train always changed between locohauled and DMU. In 2006 it was - as in summer 2015 - a slovenian class 711 DMU running that train. These trains have old fashioned first class accomodation only (seating 2+1), but of course today only a 2nd class ticket is necessary.
At 18.07.2006 the 711 007 is observed on it's way to Pula behind the border, on croatian side. B 1472 just passed the semaphor presignal of Roč station. Behind the train the typical rock crowned mountains of Ćićarija are visible.
On the swedish Ore Line an Ore train heads westbound after passing Stordalen station. In the background the 70 km long Lake Torneträsk is visible.
Saturday morning I walked our 3800m, clockwise, route over Mt. Tolmie and University of Victoria grounds.
It was a beautiful, sunny morning with a stiff wind.
Anyone dressed for the weather could only enjoy it!
There are not too many freight trains on secondary railways in Germany any more. One really safe is the EGP train into Prignitz region. Around noon the train returns from Pritzwalk on this single track line to Wittenberge at the Berlin - Hamburg mainline. We observed the train in the mid of nowhere between the stations of Groß Pankow and Rosenhagen. EGP mostly let one of the last german 221 haul this train. Today it's morely a 225 observed in front of that train.
Two times a day a single Malaxa is on it's way from Medgidia to Tulcea across the wide range of Dobrogea. Few kilometers behind Nicolae Bălcescu station the old veteran is observed at the junction where the airport track meets the line.

The Mercury transit across the Sun on 9 May 2016, as seen from 26° Latitude in the Southern Hemisphere (Johannesburg, South Africa).
About this video:
This is a time-lapse sequence of Mercury's transit, photographed between 13:05 - 17:25. It was a challenge to image in partly cloudy conditions. At S 26° Latitude, the last bit of the transit was not visible due to the Autumn Sun setting before the transit was complete.

About Mercury:
The Planet Mercury is a little more than one third the size of Earth. The Sun is a very average mid-sized star, but as a size reference, about 1.3 million Earth sized Planets could fit inside the volume of the Sun.
Even though the Planet Mercury orbits around the Sun every 88 days, a transit is rare. This is due to the fact that Mercury orbits in a tilted plane at 7° from Earth's orbit. As a result it usually passes above or below our line of sight to the Sun. The last transit was in 2006, and the next one is in 2019.
About the Sunspots:
The large dark spot is Sunspot 2542, and yes it is larger than Mercury (or Earth for that matter). Sunspots are cooler holes in the Sun's Photosphere. The Photosphere has a temperature of 5,800 degrees Kelvin, and Sunspots have temperatures of about 3,800 degrees K. Sunspots only appear to be dark, as they are surrounded by much brighter and hotter regions of the Sun's Photosphere.
About the Sun:
The Sun is a G-type Main-Sequence Yellow Dwarf (G2V) Star. As far as stars go, the Sun is a very average star in the middle of its life cycle (around 5 billion years old). Through the process of fusion, the Sun burns approximately 600 million tonnes (metric tons) of Hydrogen each second, turning it into 596 million tonnes of Helium. As the Hydrogen nuclei fuse, Photons are emitted, which in short is why the Sun and other stars shine.
The Sun is roughly 150,000,000 km (93,205,679 mi) from Earth. The speed of light is 300,000 km/sec (186,000 miles/sec), which means that the light took just over 8 light-minutes (8 minutes and 26 seconds) to reach my Telescope.

Across Cedar Hill Rd and through the University of Victoria (UVic) along the Alumni Trail system to Gordon Head Rd.
Once through Varsity and down Broadmead then it was through Horner Park to Palo Alto St.
This basically is our 3800 metre loop walk
I do this steep hike and walk to keep in line with my cardiologist's admonition to: “Get out twice a week and get your heartrate up to 120bpm for twenty minutes.”
On Karlovac - Metlika line a railbus as train 4405 heads into Mahično station. The level crossing is still secured by mechanical barriers. But the entrance signal is not in duty of the crossing attendant; it is operated by wires from the station.

EN: Which class Bm73 transet could have been more ideal than train no 007. In 2008 it was the only one in red livery, all others were still painted silver/blue - a bad color for landscapes. Train Rt 41 had just left Dombås and climbed up onto Fokstumyra moor. Today nearly all Bm73 wear the red "Tomatsuppe" livery.

After a passing stop in the summit station of Malovan, freight train 61314 rolls out of the station. Malovan summit is more than 800m in height, and now the train needn't much power to get down to Ličko Polje. We had luck to get the old colored 2062 038 as first engine. The slide is from 08.09.2008. There were still three green 2062 remaining in that area.

Across a wonderful world of rocks and lakes the norwegian Sørlandsline is lead between Egersund and Sirevåg. On this line the Stavanger suburban trains run every hour. They are built by italian Ansaldo EMU. One of them is observed as train Lt 3051 leaving Hellvik station.
EN: Very rare to see: Two trains running parallel on a double track line. Freight 76378 heads northbound and will be passed by RB 11908 between Meldorf and Hemmingstedt. The photo is a very little extract of the original photo as the focal length was prepared for a totally different motive.

Between Jablanica and Mostar the railway line follows Neretva valley across a bizarre and grotesque rocky scenery. After stopping in Drežnica halt train 391 from Sarajevo to Ploće crosses river Drezanka, that flows into river Neretva at this point. The train is composed of an ASEA license electric loco class 441 and three former swedish B3 waggons.

About the movie
Five days walking inside Torres del Paine National Park, 3 hours of video recording and this is the result.
I've made the 'W Trekking' inside the park with my brother. We walked through different terrains, one more beautiful than other. We've done about 50 km and the experience was awesome.
I've made this video to try to show the feeling that is to be there, but is impossible. The video never shows the real sensation, but it helps a little.

EN: One of the biggest companies in the Hamburg port area is Hamburger Stahlwerke. They have also some industrial locos. One of them is observed along Amsterdamer Kai with Dradenauhafen in foreground.

EN: Freighttrain 61154 was well audible more than half an hour before. But suddenly the noise was cut. Silence, nothing to hear! The train was stopped in Perušić station for crossing an very late running IC train in opposite direction. After that crossing the noise of the two 2062 swelled on and some minutes later the train passed the level crossing at Sv Marko.
DE: Den Güterzug 61154 hörten wir wohl schon eine halbe Stunde vorher. Aber plötzlich riss der Motorsound der hart arbeitenden Maschinen ab und es herrschte Stille! Der Zug stand offenbar in Perušić in der Ausweiche, um einen stark verspäteten IC in der Gegenrichtung durch zu lassen. Danach schwoll der Sound wieder donnernd an und bald pasierte der Zug die kleine Siedlung Sv Marko.
The snowstorm passing through is freighttrain 5252 on norwegian Raumaline between Lesjaverk and Lesja, not far from Lora village. Only one container is the load of that train.

There was a time when many bulgarian 07 locomotives were rented to greece railway, because they had not enough machines. One of these locos, that are similar to german class 231, haules a freight train in the far north of Greece. Here, a bit south of Mouries, the freight train 80671 from Bulgaria to Greece is observed in front of Rhodope mountains, the border to Bulgaria. Behind the 07 two greece A451 MLW machines give their power for that train that seems much shorter than it is, because the second halv of the train is built by flat wagons.

EN: All the years the Vogelsberg line in Hessen was well known for its well equipped telegraph line leading along the track. But now they are rebuilding the line. We should see it in a positive way: Nothing hinders the view from the south side of the track to RB 24846 west of Bad Salzschlirf on this beautiful summerly autumn evening.

EN: In the heart of the german capitol there was a meadow with tracks in it. Whilst we see the northern ramp of Berlin Hbf (tunnelstation) in the back, a shunting engine of BEHALA moves a long container train to the exit tracks of Berlin Moabit yard. Actually I waited for the nighttrain from Sweden arriving to the Central Station, but it was hidden by another train. When suddenly the meadow tracks in my foreground woke up to alive by the old Krauss-Maffei M800BB, it was a nice compensation. Today the new S-Bahn line is to be built here in the meadows.

Während wir im Hintergrund auf die Nordrampe des Berliner Hbf schauen, rangiert eine Kraus-Maffei M800BB einen Containerzug über die Wiesengleise in die Ausfahrt des Gbf Moabit. Eigentlich hatte ich hier auf den Nachtzug aus Schweden gewartet, der mir aber leider zugefahren wurde. Das plötzliche Erwachen der Wiese im Vordergrund war aber eine nette Kompensation... Heute wird im Vordergrund die neue S-Bahnstrecke gebaut.

VEB Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke „Hans Beimler“ Hennigsdorf (LEW) used this opportunity to take a trip to Hamburg with the brandnew built Intercity DMU for Greece. The train was observed from the signalbox of Bergedorf station. In the background we see EMU of Hamburger S-Bahn, class 472.

Der Zug wurde aus dem Stellwerk Bgf in Bergedorf beobachtet.

This walk gets more enervating each time I walk it.
Maybe my mountain climbing days are over.
Anyway, it certainly is wonderful weather for outdoor activities at 13°C (55°F).
EN: On its way to Berlin "ICE" 1105 rounds the curve before Rothenburgsort S-Bahn station. The train is built by a former Metropolitan trainset and sold as ICE. The area in foreground was the first container rail terminal of Hamburg. It's now designed for new buildings of logistic centers, but without rail connection.

Heute entstehen hier neue Logistikhallen.
