Yeah, David Copperfield may be impressive being able to make it seem like the Statue of Liberty disappeared, but it is always more impressive when Nature makes things disappear because she is not any more intimidated by size. Be it a mountain, a bridge, a whole city... she does it with an ease that is spectacular and with a frequency that is stirring.

A story of a voyage, of a train and of an incredible lucky break.
Every story has a beginning and this one starts on a sunny Sunday morning in Porto.
My wife and I, we only wanted to walk a little bit around. Therefore we were dressed, therefore I only had two films with me. (and because of the sunny morning only low ones)
Our luck led us to the old railway station. And there we met, we saw the Presidential. A train full of history, a train created for kings, presidents and popes. (But more about that later)
I took some photos, I spoke with some of the crew and I got to know the founder and executive curater of that museum trian, Mr. Goncalo Castel-Branco.
He looked at me, he saw my old Hasselblad and he asked me what we have planned for the day. „If you have nothing special programmed and if you will take some shots of the train for me, you will be my guests“.....
And this was the beginning of a wonderful experience, of a great and incredible day.
But now to the photo above:

I made a rookie mistake and didn't make enough developer to cover the film, so this is really more like 5x12. :(

I had gone out simply to try to finish a roll of Fuji Acros in one of the backs on my Hasselblad. That roll has been part of a months-long project to compare Acros I and Acros II and it had been lingering a bit longer than I cared. So I thought I would turn to the subject I know I always can when in need of photographs: the St. Johns Bridge. Funny enough though, that bridge didn't end up being the subject for this image, instead I got the railroad bridge and ended up making an image I like quite a bit. I always enjoy reminding myself that the expectations I have of what images I'll make prior to stepping out the front door versus what images I find once out there can be two very different things. You never know exactly what you will find and often the best thing you can do is just get out that door and let chance set you up for the rest.

Back from Portugal, back with many impressions from Porto and other locations in the middle of that country. I will show them during the next days and weeks. I will describe them and I will tell you some little stories behind.
It was a trip in a very different world. Porto is a place full of very friendly people, of open-minded, helpful and satisfied human.
We started and we finished in Porto. In addition we spent some days in Vila do Conde, in Braga, Guimaraes and Coimbra.
We booked some days via Airbnb in Porto, but we also enjoyed comfortable hotels in the other cities.
I took many photos, drunk many glasses of wine and made some very good friends.
Portugal, a great country, we enjoyed every moment.
And we will come again!

A short while ago, like most weekends we do have some time left for a hike.
The weather forecast for the weekend made us decide to go for the Saturday as the best option.
We woke up and we were greeted by some light rain, almost decided to stay at home, but after some tea and coffee we went to the Dalerpeel area, a raised bog area that was used in the past for peat cutting. Nowadays it's a nature reserve.
Followed the hiking trail maintained by the Drentslandschap. A nice trail only the small part that follows a local road is not that nice.
Even for a local road there is a lot of traffic
And used one of our Canon Eos 3 cameras again. The camera was loaded with our last Fujifilm Acros100
This was our last original version not the new II with an expiry date 10-2019.
Developing is as always done with our Caffenol recipe, Caffenol-C-L at 22c and stand developing for 50 minutes this time.
The original Acros does like Caffenol, the results are nice again
