Mount Evans is one of Colorado's "Fourteeners", 53 mountains with an elevation greater than 14,000 feet (4267m). Colorado has more fourteeners than any other State, including Alaska. Mt. Evans is 14th highest at 14,264 ft.
The hardy folks in this picture climbed the last section to the summit. We made use of the "highest paved road in America" and stopped in the parking lot at 14130 ft. We hiked short distances at this level.
Our Colorado skies have been just total craziness this winter, pretty much from November on we have had endless legendary sunsets. This one had a tinge of iridescence. Enjoy.
Rio Grande EMD GP60 Nos. 3155 and 3154 power a summer edition of the Rio Grande Ski Train downgrade out of Plainview, Colorado, on the afternoon of August 5, 2000. For a short while anyway, these GP60s (there were three total), Rio Grande’s last new power, could be found hauling Denver’s passenger train tradition.
