A bull frog found near the small pond in our garden.

We had a ton of rain early this morning and this frog was hopping around right by my front porch. I encouraged it to stay on the leaf litter next to a wall, and after a few tries, I was able to get up in its face for a few photos. My main problem was that the humidity kept fogging my lens. Note the oblong spots characteristic of the Pickerel Frog.

A Garden frog that popped up in my pond

to jump or not to jump? that is a question !

After spotting a huge moth this morning where my tree frogs usually sit waiting on bugs it was great to seem them tonight. I didn't think a moth could eat a tree frog, but it was still good to see these guys tonight!

A whistling frog (Rawlinsonia ewingii) from Garston, Southland, NZ. A native of Australia and Tasmania, they have thrived in NZ and are still in the process of expanding their range. When they colonize new areas they often do so rapidly, experiencing a population explosion before the local predators cotton on to them and bring their numbers back down to a more stable long-term equilibrium.

Pickerel Frog (Rana palustris) from Clark's Creek, Tennessee

While taking a break in the action of shooting the barred owls, tree frogs were spotted in the nearby palm fronds. Everyone was shooting away at them and I could barely even see them. They were so tiny! Had to try to take a shot for my daughter who is absolutely a nut for frogs. However, this experience left me with the realization that I need to get a macro lens - or at least more experience with my extension tubes! I shot this with my 70-200mm f2.8 with a 2X converter only.

This frog wasn't afraid of me or my dog and allowed us to take endless photos. Fort Foster is leftover from WW2, but is now a state park with beaches and walking paths. A nice day for a picnic and a swim and photos.
