This batik was done on Andros Island, by the local people of the Island who work at

www.androsia.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html ... and who, when I was there, were doing this stamp for the Nassau Beach Hotel...for their linens, things in the gift shop, etc. After making the items, they sold their scraps in big bags, which, of course, I bought one of. I did the stitching.

A square format of a blackbird vintage song sheet etc enclosing dried pressed botanicals. I then rubbed on various paints which picked up on the free motion stitching to attach it all together. #blackbird #theblackbird #vintagemusic #music #mixedmedia #pressedbotanicals #freemotionstitching #creativitybysandrafoster #creativity #sandrafoster #sandrafosterphotography

Not finished yet but nearly ,,, This is an insert over an annotation for the previous page so lifts up to reveal notes underneath. Antique lace is added to one side and I have continued some of the lace markings on the left hand side of the page (though I have cunningly missed off the bottom markings!).

The right hand panel is a tissue panel of free machine embroidery, which was an experiment, sewn in a grid design and then I thought why don't I embroider some flowers onto it in matching colours? Not yet finished but I'm liking it!

It's been improvised, serendipidous, design-as-you-go. But I like the results.

Handpainted on muslin (tube acrylics) flowers fused and stitched to painted batting. Border: sunprinted with bleeding art tissue and liquid textile paints, then fused to heavy craft interfacing. Free-motion stitched flowers and leaves using size 12 hand-dyed variegated yarns.

Silk straw paper with FME - the top square piece has been sewn normally into a grid pattern and FME attempts on the bottom.

First attempts at FME on cotton scrim - must practice harder as all the shapes look the same to me.

Stitching on the wallpaper is with a free motion foot. Thanks Roben-Marie Smith for the introduction!

Had a free day experimenting with FME. Started off with the very small bottom piece which is 5 layers of tissue, then did the long band which is also 5 layers of tissue (whole not collaged) and then stitched a grid pattern onto it. This turned out very well and I am going to embroider onto it. The last piece is a piece of bark paper underneath with another fancy, sparkly piece on top and then a final layer of crinkled voile (leftover piece from my curtains) and I have to say I'm rather pleased with them all. Can't wait to try lots more possibilities.

*** This one has been juried into 'Dimensions' - a touring biennial group show of 35 pieces sponsored by the Saskatchewan Craft Council to showcase fine craft in the province. I'll post the tour schedule on my blog as soon as I find out when and where this will be exhibited! : )
