"It is by no means certain that our individual personality is the single inhabitant of these our corporeal frames...
We all do things both awake and asleep which surprise us.
Perhaps we have cotenants in this house we live in."
(Oliver Wendell Holmes - American Physician, Poet, Writer and Professor at Harvard, 1809-1894)
A few minutes after sunrise this young man was washing in the Ganges at Shitla Ghat in Varanasi (Benaras).

Day 32, Month 2: Colour
Boat houses, Oriental Parade Wellington. This month's challenge will literally be a challenge, because I usually prefer to shoot B&W!
An ongoing project of curating original art work in the public space. Members of the collective send framed works to one artist, and that artist installs the works on the streets.
New! .sprout. seasonal frames!
Available options: Farmers Market, Something Wicked, and Pumpkin Patch frames.
In 1939 Hitler and Stalin made an agreement (The German-Soviet Nonagression Pact, or Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact) to divide Poland. They then promptly invaded Poland and began systematic mass murder and looting, campaigns that did not abate after Germany and the USSR went to war with each other in 1941. Many museums we visited had some sort of exhibit like the above. The empty frames commemorate the vast cultural heritage looted during the Second World War and the country's continuing project of reaquisition. Empty Frames exhibit at the Wilanów Palace, Warsaw.
An old stone building with blue frames around doors and windows, Stirling, Scotland.
While the main focus of our visit to Scotland earlier this year was waking the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness, that hike only took up about a third of our visit. Before the walk started we spent several night adjusting to jet lag, including stays in Glasgow, Oban, and Fort William. After the walk we had a night in Inverness, and multiple nights in Stirling, Glasgow, and Edinburgh… before about a week in England. Stirling, where I made this photograph, was our first serious non-hiking destination after the walk.
Like so many old towns — and Stirling is very old — the construction materials often reflect what was available locally. Here many of the old buildings are stone — they have been updated for modern tenants, but their appearance is far from modern. I love interesting geometry and color, and the juxtaposition of the old stone walls with the blue-painted frames around the doors and windows caught my attention. Looking more closely, you may also see the remnants of older openings that were closed up in the past.

In the new Mobile Frame Zero game that's in the making (you can find it on kickstarter), there will be mobile frames fighting alongside spaceships. The frames don't have to be to scale with the ships, but they still have to be pretty tiny to not look out of place.
Macro photography is one I most enjoy looking at and shooting, as it brings into view the tiny, amazing things you would normally never see. I am always drawn to close up/macro images so when I found Mike Moats and his "tiny landscapes" I knew he would be my inspiration for this week. As I was photographing a single yellow rose that has hung on against all odds, it began to lightly snow and this tiny snowflake landed and then quickly disappeared. I was so happy to have caught a moment in it's short life.

Often the hand crafted frames that surround paintings in museums are worth more than the painting which they surround. I am constantly amazed by the beauty of these creations.
