The museum building was built in the 1890s and is of exceptional value as a monument of historic heritage architecture. As part of the tour you will get acquainted with the history of the house, visit the "live" workshops, where man-made things are created in a variety of traditional and unique techniques. I love waterfalls. As I progress in my photography, I find that I like to pick out patterns and close up frames of the bigger picture of what I'm seeing. These falls were spectacular. I hope you like this interpretation.

The Horsehead and Flame Nebula, a stack of 11 shots processed in Photoshop. 1 of the frames was 10 minutes at ISO800, the rest were 20 minutes per frame, ISO400. Uncooled Nikon D810A on a Celestron CGEM2 mount, APT controlling the camera, ZWO guide camera with 60mm Sbvony scope for guiding with PHD2. The main scope is a Nikkor 600mm f/4 VR lens, shot wide open here. I had to keep adjusting the focus about every 40 minutes as the temp dropped, which is a pain! When I tried to do the meridian flip I messed it up and the scope lost its aligment, which for some reason I couldn't re-establish. I lost so much time I gave up for the night! Something I have to work on!

We were photographing the species that appeared when the guide excitedly told us that an owlet was vocalizing. Since we hadn't photographed an owlet before, we tried with renewed enthusiasm to identify the origin of the sound, but quickly became discouraged as it seemed beyond our capacity to identify a bird that we already knew to be very small, although we had never seen one before. We refocused on what was displayed before our eyes and didn't think about it anymore.
After about 15 minutes, the guide exclaimed excitedly, "it's over there". However, even with the explanation of where to look, it was not easy and some of us took a few minutes to follow the instructions of the trunks to find this small, but beautiful, ball of feathers!
We spent another 10 minutes photographing this beauty, searching for possible angles, backgrounds, and frames. I even managed to find a second bird by myself. The difficult part is finding the first one :)

Stained Glass – Fourth Series
This is another passion of mine, photographing stained glass windows. My favourite subject is the ‘Arts and Crafts’ windows of the late 19th and early 20th century. The following images cannot be seen in the form that I’ve presented them. I have created frames using other bits of other windows or architecture that have been acquired over a period of time also there may be some colour changes. I like the effect, hope you do too.

I see Western Kingbirds far less often than their close relatives, the Eastern species, so I was happy to find a pair nesting in my neighbourhood this spring. One morning in late June I spent some time watching them catch flies on my neighbour's property, and one obliged me by resting for a few minutes on a low branch, allowing me to shoot a dozen or more frames.
This is the first of three shots of neighbourhood birds. The next two will be from my backyard. I am already feeling nostalgic for them, as the southbound migration has begun: we are losing species every week. No more nighthawks. Blackbirds are flocking. Shorebirds are on the move. Next month the small passerines will be passing through - warbler, sparrows, vireos. Stay tuned...

A picturesque jewel set against the dramatic backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, Inveraray is a lovely coastal village that perfectly frames the shimmering waters of Loch Fyne. Dominated by its rows of stately, white-harled Georgian buildings and its 38m high freestanding Bell Tower. It mingles with the whispers of the Scottish Clan Campbell history and the legacy of the former fishing industry that thrived on its once bustling quayside. Inveraray stands as a unique example of 18th-century town planning, making it an exquisite and memorable stop on Scotland's stunning west coast. "This handheld photo was taken from the summit of “Dun na Cuaiche” (813ft) which makes for a great hike to visit it’s Watchtower that dominates the skyline".

A Note About High ISO:
I typically use auto ISO when photographing birds in flight because lighting conditions can change dramatically during a sequence. In this instance, the ISO was 3200 in good light but jumped to 12800 as the bird passed through shadows cast by vegetation along the bank. For those who dislike high ISO due to noise concerns, it’s crucial to understand that noise is more often caused by underexposed frames than by high ISO settings alone. Noise is exacerbated by underexposure and improper exposure balance, especially in low-light conditions. Using a higher ISO to properly expose the image is better than underexposing, as proper exposure ensures a stronger signal-to-noise ratio and minimizes visible noise, even at higher ISOs. While a lower ISO is always preferable, capturing the shot is what truly matters in photography. To enhance the image, I used Topaz AI, which effectively reduced noise and improved the overall quality.
