Matt Fraction's Deskset Group, another view of my office and work space at the day job. The corner stuff (jackets, hat tree, flip chart) is hidden behind the office door.

The top of the book case and the stuff on the wall above are artifacts dealing with mining, mining safety and some minerals found in San Diego county. It's a sort of mini-museum.

Just a tiny fraction of the thousands and thousands of bikes. This is from the gigantic parking lot looking toward J&P Cycles, one of my favorite stores.

This is just one of the many parking areas around Destination Daytona.

At its height Bike Week received about 500,000 visitors! Yes, a half million bikers.

Then the economy crashed and all bike events noticed a significant decline in participation.

This year is the busiest I've seen it in a long time.

A birthday party was held for me one day after my birthday, necessitating the addition of a fraction to the traditional banner.

I got to meet Matt Fraction and he was every bit as twisted as I had hoped he would be.

Scavenge Challenge #4 : Metric Measurement Makes More Sense

When I was in Theatre School in the costume shop, one of the most frustrating parts was how much time we spent using fractions because we were working in imperial measurements. Drafting patterns meant lots of multiplying certain measurements and adding others together. While I don't have a problem doing the math, it definitely took a bit more time and double checking than it would have had we used our handy-dandy base ten metric system!

This time other fraction, Wolfpack. This is one of my favourite nation of Lego Castle. Maybe that gatehouse will be a part of something bigger :) I want to build big fortress based on modular elements, which could be useable in other models. But I’m not sure that my computer has enough power, we will see ;)

Sicily, Akragas

Obol (Silver, 0.79 g 1), c. 410-406. Two eagles standing right on dead hare, the one in front with closed wings and its head thrown back screaming in triumph, the one behind with wings open and head turned down, tearing at its prey with its beak. Rev. Crab with between its claws; below, grouper (polyprium cernium) swimming to right. Basel 263 = SNG Lockett 519 (same dies). Rizzo pl. III, 6 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 829 (same dies). Very rare. Beautifully toned, a superb coin of the finest style. Extremely fine.

From the Star collection, ex The Numismatic Auction 3, 1 December 1985, 20 and Bank Leu 22, 8 May 1979, 13. The splendid coin is truly one of the finest of all known fractions from Sicily. The engraving is meticulously detailed, the animals lifelike in every way, and the composition is a triumph of coin design. When compared with other contemporary issues from Akragas, such as the famous Skylla tetradrachm (as Basel 258 and Kraay/Hirmer 175) and that with the fly symbol (Kraay/Hirmer 177), there can be no doubt that the same master engraver was involved. It seems likely that this obol must have been a special issue; apparently all the known examples of the type come from the same die pair and it was, obviously, not designed for mass circulation. In any event, the beauty of this tiny coin is yet another piece of evidence to show how fanatically proud the Sicilians were of their coinages and how far they would go to obtain the very finest artists of the day to make them.
