Sant’Elia is a small fraction of the municipality of Santa Flavia, in the province of Palermo.
The inhabited center, founded around the seventeenth century, located largely on a promontory overlooking the sea, was initially born as a fishing village dependent on an ancient trap.

This is but a fraction of this massive double waterfall. The whole thing in frame is a kind of an awkward composition from the viewpoint at the end of the trail. I like this one and another one I'll post in a while much better.

Borgo Parrini is a small fraction of the municipality of Partinico, in the province of Palermo, characterized by colorful houses decorated in full Gaudì style.
Today very few people live there who, however, in the last ten years have decided to give the village a new life. A local entrepreneur had the intuition to make it an unusual place and started a renovation of the houses in the style of the Catalan artist Gaudì.
The facades of the houses are colored with bright colors and writings, the walls have mosaic decorations and colorful tiles and the small village has become a very popular place for travellers.

I have to confess that I was both surprised and quietly chuffed when I uploaded this and saw that I’d caught this little fellow fairly cleanly. He appeared from nowhere into that exact position, obligingly stopped for a fraction of a second as the sunlight hit him, and then was gone.
I had been patiently plotting up that little bit of lavender hoping a bee might come and land somewhere on it and was just about to give up because holding the 20x magnifier in place on the back of the LCD with pressure from my eye for any length of time can become uncomfortable, so I was about to quit when there was a glint in the sunlight. I didn’t even think about it before I knew it I had moved the camera and hit the button - one shot and gone - . I hoped the focus point had found him. I checked and saw that Ihad indeed caught him but I can never tell whether something is in proper focus even with that powerful magnifier - I can tell if it is blurred, but often they look sharp but when I upload to the big screen, they are anything but.
This time it was! :^))

Borgo Parrini is a small fraction of the municipality of Partinico, in the province of Palermo, characterized by colorful houses decorated in full Gaudì style.
The name derives from the fact that the fields around Partinico were bought by the Jesuit fathers in the 1500s. The name parrini, in fact, in Sicilian means priests.
So it was an area managed by the religious consisting of a small country church and a convent around which, later, the village arose with lodgings for the settlers and agricultural labourers.
In 1767, then, this village became the property of the French prince Henri d'Orleans who set up a farm for the production of a wine that soon became much appreciated and sought after. After the Second World War many of the inhabitants preferred to move to the city and the village remained almost uninhabited and therefore began its inevitable decline.

* It has been four years since I have the opportunity to photograph a Starling murmuration .This was taken from almost the same place I took some shots in 2019 .This year the event took place inland over the Far Inns nature reserve . The images from the murmuration in 2019 were over the River Humber. Impossible to speculate how many Starlings were involved the RSPB site says it can be up to 100,000.
Despite the incredible size of the flocks, starling numbers are just a fraction of what they used to be. The starling population has fallen by more than 80 per cent in recent years, meaning they are now on the critical list of UK birds most at risk.
The decline is believed to be due to the loss of permanent pasture, increased use of farm chemicals and a shortage of food and nesting sites in many parts of the UK.

I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO

Thank you for visiting and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.
Picture Lake in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Park. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we could set up nicely with a magnificient view. With luck we were able to shoot some of the meteors as they lit up for a fraction of a second across the night sky. This photo has two in view just above the mountain. Squint and you'll see them!
This is just a fraction of the number of King Penguins that were at this location. There are really no words to describe the feeling of being among thousands of penguins that show absolutely no fear of people. It was quite a humbling experience. Now I say that I should have taken more pictures but sometimes it was so overwhelming that you just had to look and take it all in. We were told that there were more than 250,000 penguins at some locations. This was the summer season in the Southern Ocean and they come here only to nest, then return north to warmer waters during the winter.
We were also told that the older penguins nest to the inside of the group and the first time nesters stay to the outside. This is because there is more risk of predators getting the chicks that are on the outside and the more experienced penguins know that. Taken at Gold Harbour, South Georgia on the cruise to Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctic Peninsula.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
A fraction late locking on to this pair so not as sharp as I would have liked, but still nice to see the two together....taken @ Kidwelly Quay

This view shows a small fraction of the tundra swan activity on Sunday afternoon near Brownsville MN. The swan staging area extends for about 3 miles on the upper Mississippi River here and those distant flying swans are about 1 1/2 miles or 2400 meters away from where I was standing on the west shore. The Wisconsin shoreline would be an additional 800 meters to the east. If you care to zoom in on this rather fuzzy photo since there's some atmospheric distortion, you can see hundreds of ducks, some Canada geese and even a few American white pelicans joining in the mix.
…….A view from Hallin Fell, just a fraction of the lovely views from up here. Alan:-)………

Actually I just wanted to cross the street. On my way through Madrid City. Within a fraction of a second I decided to photograph him. His surprised look says it all. I thanked him very kindly and moved on.
Well, I have finally reached 1000 uploads after being on flickr for exactly 9 years. I know that I am not the most prolific contributor, but I do like to try and show only my best work on my stream. I have also had a couple of breaks over the last 9 years as life has sometimes taken priority over what for me is a pastime rather than a livelihood. Of course, I only show a tiny fraction of the amount of images that I take and I use this stream to share my landscapes and a few nature images. I do photograph other subjects and I have recently got the bug for scanning and reviving very old slides and negs - but that would be for another stream/profile.
This image was one that I made last week up Higger Tor in the Dark Peak. I waited approximately one hour for the strong wind to blow thick dark cloud further north. The wait was worth it because the sun then shone through the clouds in dramatic fashion.

Seems like this little spring cub is manning the lost & found these days. LOL. Spring cubs, much like our own children, they are quite fascinated by the smallest of things ... sometimes it's a box, or a tool, perhaps a branch, or even a camera or a tripod, or in this case a hat that was obviously dropped by an onlooker. Well, it didn't seem to matter as this little one played with that thing non-stop, though honestly I'm not sure who was having more fun ... the cub or the photographer (me) happily clicking away during its antics. LOL. Tucked in closely to its mom, it tossed that hat around, put it in the water, retrieved it from the water ... though it just wouldn't put it on ... guess it wasn't its size or style. ;-). Either way, it was a fantastic encounter for me and great entertainment for the cub. By the way, no one came to claim it from the cub ... smart move I'm sure.
Hope that made you smile, even a fraction of what it did me. Happy Tuesday!

Suspended for a fraction of a second, this perfectly formed droplet is a moment of pure symmetry. It is weightless yet powerful, embodying the delicate balance between motion and stillness. A fleeting crystal ball, reflecting the world in microcosm before it vanishes.
A very receptive state of mind... not unlike a sheet of film itself, seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second's exposure conceives a life in it.

🇬🇧The three Ladin-speaking fractions are located in the south-west of the municipality
The Austrian Tyrol is German-speaking, while the Italian Tyrol presents a more complex linguistic situation: in South Tyrol, half of the population declares itself to be German-speaking, a third is Italian-speaking and there is a minority (4%) of Ladin speakers.
This language is recognised in Alto Adige, or South Tyrol, together with German and Italian, in the Val di Fassa in northern Trentino, northern Veneto, around the famous winter sports resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo
