A very receptive state of mind... not unlike a sheet of film itself, seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second's exposure conceives a life in it.

Yesterday the Moon was in a Full Moon phase. During a Full Moon the moon is 100% illuminated as seen from Earth and is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. The Moon will be visible throughout the night sky rising at sunset in the east and setting with the sunrise the next morning. The point at which a Full Moon occurs can be measured down to a fraction of a second. The time it takes between full moons is known as a Synodic month and is 29.530587981 days long.

Float homes [...] feature truly waterfront living with ocean or river views at a fraction of the price. Neighbours include herons, sea lions, bald eagles and many other forms of wildlife. While this style of living may not be for everyone, they do come in single family, apartments/condos, custom built or modular, prefabricated options. New models include the usual home amenities such as stainless-steel appliances, heated floors, soaker tubs, on-demand water heaters, and even rooftop decks. They follow stringent building codes, fire safety and environmental standards demanded by local, provincial and federal authorities. (Anne McMullin, Vancouver Courier)

Many thanks for your much appreciated favorites and comments.

In everyday life there are fractions of time where Eyes stare and mind is full or thoughts. Time goes by and moments Flow in the torrent of thoughts.

Last night's full moon from my place.

“There is a creative fraction of a second

when you are taking a picture.

Your eye must see a composition or an expression

that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition

when to click the camera.

That is the moment the photographer is creative.

Oop! The Moment!

Once you miss it, it is gone forever.”

This is just a fraction of the number of King Penguins that were at this location. There are really no words to describe the feeling of being among thousands of penguins that show absolutely no fear of people. It was quite a humbling experience. Now I say that I should have taken more pictures but sometimes you just have look and take it all in. We were told that there were more than 250,000 penguins at some locations. This is the summer season in the Southern Ocean and they come here only to nest, then return north to warmer waters during the winter. Taken at Gold Harbour, South Georgia with a beautiful glacier in the background. Zoom in for more detail. Another photo is in the comment box.

Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

While only a fraction of the originals remain, the ones that do remain are a remarkable sight to behold to anyone with a fascination of railroad signaling. The former AT&SF semaphores that litter the BNSF Raton and Glorieta Subs in New Mexico are impressive to say the least. While it is a shame that the line only sees 2 Amtrak trains a day, you have to make the most of what is given. Flying along at 79 mph, the #3 Southwest Chief splits the blades at the ESS Wagon Mound on their way to their next stop in Las Vegas, NM.

These two photos were taken a fraction of a second apart. It seems like the lightning started off as two separate strikes, and then merged - to find a better path between sky and ground, I assume.

The two photos were taken with my iPhone 5 using the app iLightningCam. These ones were taken from indoors on the top floor of my building, with a little tripod set up in a hallway window, so the photos were take through glass (I got crowded out of my unobstructed doorway spot by some rooftop partiers who didn't seem to be worried about getting hit by lightning). I then did some editing on each photo to improve contrast and to try to remove some artifacts from the dirty windows. The fact that one photo is more purple than the other is not something I did - the colors just came out different from one moment to the next, I suppose because of the changing light.

I actually got a couple photos of other strikes from the same storm showing a similar pattern to the first photo - that is, two strikes, one hitting the Sears Tower and one hitting off to the right in about that same spot. I even got another couple pairs of photos close together that show the bolts changing - but none of the others merged together like this.

How big of a fraction of a second apart were the photos, you ask? Well, based on the EXIF data, the photos are only about 5-10ms apart, but each photo has 50ms exposure time, and so its hard to say exactly when the brightest part of the strikes that shows up in the photos was captured. But, we can say they were between 5 milliseconds and 110 milliseconds apart.

These lead sheets weigh 0,82 KG. According to Einstein's formula (energy is equivalent to mass times the speed of light squared) this lump of lead which fits in the palm of my hand contains the energy released by combustion of approximately 2,15 billion liters of petrol. Inversely, the combustion of petrol uses up only a minuscule fraction of the energy total stored in it. Edited in Luminar.

New power for the Lake State Railway leads a Wixom-bound job southbound on the Pere Marquette passing a Pere Marquette cantilever with searchlight signals. Odd to see signaling for a double track mainline railroad but only a fraction of signals are lit.

As you can tell I have taken a few bird shots recently. This is one of the best of the lot. The kind of capture that I have wanted for a long time.

A small fraction of the Snow Geese encountered at Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge on the day after Christmas.

December 26th is the latest we've encountered large numbers of Snow Geese at the refuge. In past years we've seen peak numbers on Dec. 4th and Dec. 14th. None of the refuge waters were frozen and the weather has been mild, giving the geese plenty of time to rest and refuel before completing their migration further south.

What it is , I could only see a fraction of the rainbow because of buildings in the way , but it was very strong in colour and had to be taken . This is the same view and tree of a recent shot in mist and fog - think this is going to be known as The Weather Tree from now on !!

Have to put put this track up to go with the shot !!

Or Tuft. 3.5 cms across cap on Willow. This is a fraction of what were on the branch and they were so pretty. I am trying to get a spore print for a proper ID. Not what I said before as the spore print is the wrong colour. The spore print is Tobacco brown.

Bluebell Wood Hyde Lea Stafford UK 21st September 2020

This is the first of a few photos I will be posting of my recent trip to Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California. I went on the Subway hike earlier this year (as you can see from my prior posts here) but could immediately tell that this place would be magical in the fall. I was able to take a vacation from residency during the peak color and it was amazing!! I woke up early and got to the parking lot well before light and I was the first person there. I made it down and hiked for a while in the dark too. There was some early cloud cover that I thought was going to snuff out the light. Eventually the clouds burned off and I got some amazing glow!! I had this place all to myself again and it was such a treat to be able to take my time and enjoy a place like this with nobody else around. This image ended up being a 6 image panoramic with focus stacking. Overall, it turned out to be a 21 frame image. The other crazy part about this is the limited editing required. I obviously had to merge the photos, but I did very little to correct the colors or contrast - the light was perfect. Anyway, I was super excited to go here again and I was super excited to see the images when I got back. I hope you all can enjoy my photo place, even if its just a fraction as much as I do! :)

I wish there was a hidden, deeper meaning to this; some occult symbology that involved the fragmented essence of life, and how light harmoniously integrates all the colours, but no... I just plunked a prism down among the puzzle pieces on the table, and it looked pretty cool in the sunlight.

An autumnal counterpart to my image "Carry the Zero" from the same spot. If you spend anytime looking through my galleries you know I really enjoy shooting in foggy, misty conditions, especially in the mountains. The alternating meadows and tree clusters characterizing subalpine forests make for the perfect backdrop for fog. I was lucky on this morning to find such perfect conditions unfolding over golden fall colors. To make the day even better, the fog soon broke to reveal the mountain I came to photograph. Such a fun morning and memorable morning in one of my favorite parts of the world.

Real People Series ~ Candid Street Portraits

Bochrwyd / Boughrood - Brycheiniog / Breconshire (Powys)

When lockdown eased a fraction, and we were allowed to drive somewhere close to home for a bit of exercise, I decided to take the opportunity to go for a much-needed walk and indulge in a spot of landscape photography. So I made it so.

Goodness, it was great to be outside on a lovely evening. And for those of you who like a few random trivia facts, Wadenhoe was used as the backdrop for the opening scenes of the 1999 version of A Christmas Carol starring Patrick Stewart. So now you know.

Equipment: Nikon D500, Nikkor10-24mm @10mm. ISO 100, F16, 30sec. Hitech Firecrest 7-stop filter. Manfrotto tripod

Post-production: Colour balance shifted to bring out the warm colours, a few curve layers for non-destructive dodge and burn. And hint of Orton effect on the grass.
