After the corpse was spirited away, all that was left were a few broken teeth.
Conveniently located across the street from world famous "ED CARS".
These ATC's have a photo taken by me as the background and shells and bits of beach stuff encased in resin. They were great fun to make!
Work by the young people at Shuman Detention Center. I am not allowed to name the people who made these, or give any details about them.
These pieces are all very specific to the people who made them and show incredibly personal and inventive approaches to the use of the boxes as a starting-point.
Today, First Cup turns 3.
It's already been an unusual day. Because the company van is in the shop, I got the call last night to go pick up a truck, then beans, and then to drive them up to the roaster for delivery. I had intended to make my celebratory cup at the house before I left, but time was running short and I knew the pick ups were scheduled.
By the time I arrived at Ecco, most of the morning had escaped me. I was thinking that this would be a good day to update the website (following some issues over the weekend) but the information I need was locked inside Barnett's brain and in a meeting in San Francisco. So with some time on my hands, I set about trying to unlock the Crescendo espresso from Kaffa. Following some texted instructions from Kaminsky, I tried to confine my dose to 18 grams and to pull the shots just a bit longer.
The immediate and gratifying result yielded a foamy reddish cup that sparkled with a zinging, almost orange juice sweet acidity that resolved into a weird, almost sour citus note. Not my best work considering the resolve, but a pleasing shot to hold in one's mouth. Perhaps I'm dancing about architecture a little too much. Let's call it good, which it was.
There's a story behind the corn cob, but it belongs to the realm of imagination. The only part that can be written as fact is that it was discovered in a bag of Ethiopian coffee, thankfully before it went into the roaster.
If you're muse strikes you to explain the circumstances of this arrival, I'm sure it would be entertaining to the rest of us.

Just to show that not everything I make has to be distressed or patina'ed. This piece started with another watchcase back from fellow steamteam member dbvictoria. It may be a low-karat gold, but I couldn't find any markings that prove it. The plane finding fit perfectly and was riveted on along with a clock gear and a beautiful rectangular vintage watch face. The little bird dangles below the assemblage. For more movement, the plane's propellers spin freely. The 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" centerpiece hangs from a clear-coated 16" brass chain that closes with a safety catch.
Came across this little snippet on the floor today, source unknown except for the Time reference on the side.
(Almost) Finished framework. When this picture was taken, I thought I was done for the day. **See later photos**
