Remains of an in situ Middle Jurassic forest - Curio Bay Petrified Forest (Waikawa, South Island, New Zealand)
The Jurassic forest at Curio Bay may have grown at polar latitudes but data are not precise enough to confirm this. At the point at which it was overwhelmed by a sheet flood of volcaniclastic material it consisted of scattered, 30 m emergent trees above a 10 m canopy. The emergent trees may have been about two hundred years old, while those forming the canopy were no more than about 50–90 years old. The forest was probably a first generation stand which colonised a sheet-flood surface. It was dominated by conifer trees, with an undergrowth which included osmundaceous ferns.
Floristically the Curio Bay forest was dominated by conifer trees bearing the Podozamites and Elatocladus type of foliage, which probably correspond, respectively, to the Araucarioxylon (probably Araucariaceae) and Mesembrioxylon types of wood (possibly Podocarpaceae). The other most numerous plants appear to have included Pentoxylon and the osmundaceous fern trunk Ashicauli.

People gathered together to take a stand against dirty fossil fuel projects in the Pacific Northwest and everywhere.
Shell sees climate change as a gateway to new profits. This is exactly the type of long-term, dirty fossil fuels project—like oil trains and coal exports—that can’t go forward if we hope to stop the worst effects of climate change and leave a real legacy for future generations.
CLEAN MOVES is an independent trading hub and conference forum for market proven efficient mobility technology. A global race for energy efficient technology is on. In a time of fierce competition, CLEAN MOVES is a bridgehead for renewable mobility, a forum for open exchange.
Tomaš Kappa / Ralph Th. Kappler founded in 2002 in London the HALO ENERGY communications network. Among other cross-border initiatives, HALO introduced renewable energy projects to the Lusatia coal mining region in South-East Germany before anyone else. Previously he directed at GCI Group London the European corporate communications programme for British Airways where he was in charge of commercial campaigns and crisis communications. Prior to this he directed the financial services communications of the global business information provider Datamonitor in London. He obtained a master's degree in comparative religion at Rijksuniversiteit te Leiden in the Netherlands. He provided communications support to EU officials in Brussels. Tomaš Kappa grew up in the culturally vibrant and resource rich Wendish Sorbian Lusatia region. Today, Sorbian culture and Lusatia are under threat from excessive brown coal mining. German coal power plants are the largest European CO2 emitters. FURTHER INFORMATION FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/HaloEnergyCom
