This is St. Andrews House on Calton hill in Edinburgh. This is the old government building still occupied by the government. Its wonderfully gothic, I pass it everyday on the way home from work and makes me think of Gotham Asylum. I tried to capture it with dark forboding clouds over it to make it look the way it appears in my head when i see it. Dark, forboding, and full of some of the most dangerous criminal minds this world knows... but its just full of politicians.. and bureaucrats.
In 1942, the US government ordered more than 110, 000 men, women, and children to leave their homes, jobs, and lives behind and move into one of ten internment camps. These camps were set in remote, forboding areas.
Manzanar, sits in the Owens Valley at 4000 feet elevation. It is surrounded by high desert terrain to the north, south and east and high mountain terrain to the west.

Just after reaching the top of Aasgard Pass, I turned around to take in the scene about 8000' above sea level. It looked forboding as the clouds quickly turned and tumbled and filled in the mountain range. As the sun was quickly going down, we knew we'd be in for a cold and dark hike to find our camp site.

Amanda, Jordan and I all packed into Ruby the Subaru (in Jordan's words: "A German guided Japanese chariot") and set forth to explore both coasts of this lovely island.
And happend the last time around, forboding clouds and nasty weather forcasts gave way upon our arrival, and we had a truely glorious experience on the real west coast. Here is the first batch of snippets from that great day one week ago... more to come after work tonight. :)

Extremely forboding signpost in Kew Gardens. I have no idea what is so dangerous about a couple of piles of wood, but thought best not to take any chances. Before long there'll be barbed wire, mark my words.

The entryway at Kip's Castle feature a large window within the portico. While still technically outdoors, the window not only provides some protection for guests without fully defining the place where outdoors and indoors are marked.
It's amazing what the right lighting can do. This is an interior shot of St. Stephen's church for them to show what the place can look like as a venue for music performances or other events.
The church obviously doesn't normally look this dramatic - or downright scary - but you put in some deliberate lighting et voila!

She loved so much it kept her from growing.
She fell in love with everyone and everything.
She learned but never got any smarter.
Her heart would not shut up.
She told herself constantly to give up the love that haunted her brain's narrow corridors, but none of it seemed to work.
What was commonplace to the world would become shining and forboding in her life, a dangerous amethyst reminder of all that she believed in.
Every winter she watched her heart warble its frail perishing song and sink to the lowest depths of her ribcage, but it would never dare to die.
(Author's note: I wrote this while falling asleep last night. I know it doesn't make much sense.)

"Everyone, at some point in their lives, wakes up in the middle of the night with the felling that they are all alone in the world, and that nobody loves them now and that nobody will ever love them, and that they will never have a decent night's sleep again and will spend their lives wandering blearily around a loveless landscape, hoping desperately that their circumstances will improve, but suspecting, in their heart of hearts, that they will remain unloved forever. The best thing to do in these circumstances is to wake someone else up, so that they can feel this way, too."

You're so nice and you're so smart. You're such a good friend I have to break your heart. I'll tell you that Iove you then I'll tear your world apart. Just pretend I didn't tear your world apart.

This black and white image depicts a vast expanse of sky over Rehoboth Bay on a Summer afternoon. The clouds are enormous, casting long, dark shadows over the water below. They are rendered in shades of gray, from the lightest white to the darkest black, creating a striking contrast against the sky. The clouds are billowing and roiling, with jagged edges that seem to be reaching down towards the earth. In the distance, the faint outline of the shore can be seen, a narrow strip of land that seems to be held in place by the power of the clouds.

WE all look at the world in differing light. This day, this sky, gave me a rather forboding outlook on the day.

I was so thrilled I had my camera the day I walked out of Michaels to go have lunch with friends. I stood right in the middle of traffic (hoping no one was coming up from behind me!!) and when I loaded this onto the computer, I was surprised at how magnificent the mountains looked. We don't usually get this much snow, but a couple of weeks ago we had loads of rain (where I live in East County). Then I thought maybe I'd see what I could do to the sky for fun!! I had a cloud picture from our trip last year and dropped it in and played with various colors and blends. The bottom picture is my play. The mountains look so much different to me against that dark forboding sky!!! Just for fun, I'm not very good at this sort of thing.

The City Club on Sansome street has an extraordinary foyer. This is its ceiling. It's dark and forboding and the roof is apparently designed after the bottom of a broken Berlin drinking glass.

Spent a little while off the radar at my friends in the alps back in early Sept, a nice forboding afternoon hike.
If I recall correctly, it was rather a windy night. In any case, rather forboding out, in that thrilling way that sends a shiver down your spine and makes you smile.
