Took a stroll under forboding skies at Gas City Campground, saw lots of wildlife out today. Finlay Bridge waaaay off in the background.
The gloomy skies appear...very forboding...could our first Midwest thunderstorm experience be on its way...?
The rain has been wreaking havoc in SC/SE Montana and NE Wyoming. Friends of ours who live in Hardin have been hard-pressed just to keep the water at bay from their home (thankfully no buildings have gotten wet, but their fields and corrals and everything are flooded.) The entire interstate from Hardin, MT to Sheridan, WY is closed because of the flooding, and there's evacuations and all kinds of chaos around the Big Horn river and smaller rivers and tributaries. Ugh.
And tonight is supposed to bring more rain and thunderstorms to an already-saturated region. *sigh* Greg is going to be very, very busy.
These nice benches under shade trees are in front of the Art Education facility in Pomona on Second Street and is part of "Art Row". One wonders if anybody is allowed to use the benches, in view of the rather forboding sign.
A matched pair for my first letter of this year's alphabet, with is not only a homophone for last year's "A", but is also the first entry in a second, less rigorous, project for this year.
The fire escape (by which I mean downstairs window) of my old flat opened out into this alleyway. I genuinely can't decide which of these two shots, separated by about 2 and a half hours, I prefer; I love the burnished oranges of the sunset one, but there's something forboding about the darkness between here and there in the after dark one. Which do you think?

This is looking deep into the center of one of my bearded iris. The creamy white and purple invites the eye to travel inside, sit down and relax a bit. However, the teeth-like edges of the center petals look a little forboding. You might get trapped.

There is something unsettling about this shot and I cannot quite put my finger on it. I like the shot but it strikes me as being ominous in some way.
I resolve to live.
This silly little block of wood greets me each morning when I make my coffee (strong) and take my anti-depression meds. Things have been good for so long (ok months is a long time when you have the big clinical d*), but I must remember DAILY that each day is a gift.

My own way of hand counting...
The number 38 has for as long as I can remember been a bad and unlucky number for me (although I don't believe in luck). Why? What makes me hate this number? Am I going to die when I am in my 38th year? 2038? I've never been able to figure it out, and I don't want to go too far into like Jim Carey in '23' and get all psycho about it.
But I did notice that most new digital clocks when they are in the store and have that plastic fake number over the display, on average most clocks say '12:38'. Coincidence? I don't think so...

Near South Common complex by 23rd Avenue and Gateway Boulevard was a trailer park until about October of 2006.
It really stood out compared to all the new cookie cutter outlets that were across the street.
Since about the end of 2005, the trailer park had become "abandoned." Whether people were evicted for the "sake" of developing the Anthony Henday or other city plans, I have no idea...
This abandoned trailer park ended up being such a beautiful and eerie place for taking shots. Granted, I only went here a couple of times, especially during the first few months I was shooting with a DSLR. However, I was looking forward to doing some portraits here.
As you enter the park, there is this huge True that either welcomes you or forbodes you from this little community. Run down trailers with such striking and different colours covered the grounds. There was a fire pit in the centre of the grounds. Some of the trailers still had couches, fridges and other remnants, with only broken windows to show the infliction of this park. There was a jacket left on the ground untampered. Lawn chairs still seemed in comfortable spots where you could imagine neighbours just kicking back. The whole place just felt like it was suddenly abandoned. This is probably the closest thing I could think of to a ghost town for the Edmonton area. (save for some rural farm towns .. that's another story.)
This dishwasher in the shot wasn't placed by me. It was just sitting there in the middle of the grass next to a new payne of glass, so out of place. I know that this dishwasher probably had a sad story behind it just like the whole trailer park.
If only these forgotten objects could talk.

Not sure why I like this one, I just do. The sky's suitably forboding (was NOT a nice day) and I like the blue-grey of the sea. The boat in the background just breaks things up enough I think.
Those cloud don't look forboding, and Mark and Brooklyn don't look cold at all. Backpacking should be fun, right?
Response to brief to create book covers for a 'Futureshock set', including : A Clockwork Orange, Brave New World, 1984 & Fahrenheit 451.
I wanted to work with the theme of forboding in the books so I decided to play with shadows and working completely in B&W.
The forboding door is tucked into the corner of the historic Queen's Ferry pub in Auckland's Vulcan Lane.

Looks very forboding. This ruined building was on the perimeter of the holiday cottage and Orange plantation we were staying on in Sicily. Our cottage was in turn situated smack in the middle of an Orange orchard. The smell of the flowers was fantastic, and the Lemoncello that the owner made was divine. What a place. Was a bit apprehensive going to sleep here as Etna was very close.
