This accordion fold book was made in the '90's, before I had a digital camera so this is a scan. The hourglass actually works when the book is tilted, taking 17 seconds for the sand to fall. I was very happy when this book was featured in Making Books and Journals, published in 1999.

quilted by me, hand stitched binding
approx. 85" x 87"
It folds, without disassembly: Can be opened and set up in 30 seconds; it opens like a book and the two hinged parts automatically extend.
Very simple, just a few folds in some fabric lit by the soft light coming in through the window.

560 A6M3 Model 22s were built between December 1942 and summer of 1943. The A6M3 was built after the Battle of Midway, with longer wings, folding wing-tips (for carrier use), a more powerful engine and the longest range of all the Zeros.
The first flight of the “Zero” fighter was April 1, 1939. Allied Intelligence applied the name “Zeke” to the A6M, but it was better known as the Zero, the name derived from its type designation after the year in which it was put into service – 1940. Mitsubishi and Nakajima built 10,449 “Zero” fighters (more than any other type of Japanese aircraft). The single-seat fighter has light-weight all-metal construction and fabric-covered control surfaces. As the fighting on Guadalcanal raged, the Zero 22s were rushed to Buna in New Guinea and Buka in the Solomon Islands to provide cover over the supply route to Guadalcanal.
Our Zero was delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Group #3. The aircraft was recovered from Babo in New Guinea in 1991, partially restored from several A6M3s in Russia, then brought to the United States for completion of restoral. In 1998 the aircraft was re-registered and displayed at the Santa Monica Museum of Flying. Currently, this aircraft has a Pratt & Whitney R1830 engine (compared to the original Sakai engine in the Planes of Fame Museum’s flyable A6M5 Zero). There is, nevertheless, the fact that Japan had a contract with Pratt & Whitney before WWII in which P&W provided engines for fighter planes and other aircraft. It is, therefore, conceivable that some of the planes participating in the Pearl Harbor attack could have been powered by American engines.
This Zero is currently one of only five flyable Zeros in the world.
In celebration of Earth Day, I've folded Shuzo Fujimoto's Clover Folding, and, for the first time, I did it with five stages.
The precreasing was a pain, but the end result looks wonderful! Soon, I'll be sure to try to add even more layers, and eventually fold maybe even an 11 stage model.
This really is a beautiful origami tessellation, and it resembles a nice flower. Well, sort of.
Wow, I haven't uploaded anything since early December...
The idea of folding the frame is a great one. It saves space and makes transport so much easier. The down side is the tightening and untightening of screws/nuts and the wear on those parts that move. Will this create loose parts and increase vibration. Not sure.
My quad kit was purchased from Good Luck Buy it’s the QuadCopter Friber [fibre] Glass Folding ARF Set KKmulticopter. Here’s the link www.goodluckbuy.com/x525-v3-quadcoptor-friber-glass-foldi...
From the web site this kit includes spelling mistakes as bad as mine and some other parts, here’s the list:
- X525 V3 fordling [folding] frame*1 – 525mm span, 2mm thick black fibreglass, square aluminium tube arms
- KK multiCoptor Controller with USB programmer*1 – I think KK Plus 5.5d/e (16kB flash)
- XXD 2212 KV1000 brushless motor*4
- 3.17mm Shaft adaptor*4
- GWS 3-blade Propeller*4 – Two HD-9050 and two HD-9050R
- Hobbywing 20A ESC*4 – Sky Walker
- ESC Connect Board*1 – This is a power distribution PCB
- Heat shink [shrink] tube*12
I’m still testing and building so it’s not yet flying. So far I think it’s a decent kit with only a few issues.
