Number 64 for 117 Pictures in 2017 : The Road Ahead
Another from our freezing fog dog walk on 23rd January
Rolling Solent Fog.
The dense blanket of fog was rolling in off the sea and reducing visibility by the minute.
Here the cliff top road and houses are being swallowed up and disappearing into the bank of fog.
“Forest and Fog” — Fog envelopes the forest near Pena Palace, Portugal.
Back in May, during our Portugal travels, we took the train from Lisbon to Sintra, near the site of the historic Pena Palace. This structure sits on the high point of mountains above Sintra, and it is a remarkable visual presence. I suppose that on a typical day this could be a warm and sunny place — but we arrived to light rain, fog, and clouds, a bit to our surprise.
This was not necessarily a bad thing. The temperatures were comfortable, the crowds were likely suppressed a bit, and the fog and clouds produced some dramatic effects. I stoped along the walk up to the palace to make a series of photographs of this forest.

So it has no potential! Every person sees beauty differently, pictures evoke different feelings in every person. Art comes from feelings, so let's not let machines and AI decide what is "beautiful", because the miracle is in imperfection!
Nebel im Park
Seltsam, im Nebel zu wandern!
Einsam ist jeder Busch und Stein,
Kein Baum sieht den andern,
Jeder ist allein.
Voll von Freunden war mir die Welt,
Als noch mein Leben licht war;
Nun, da der Nebel fällt,
Ist keiner mehr sichtbar.
Wahrlich, keiner ist weise,
Der nicht das Dunkel kennt,
Das unentrinnbar und leise
Von allen ihn trennt.
Seltsam, im Nebel zu wandern!
Leben ist Einsamsein.
Kein Mensch kennt den andern,
Jeder ist allein.

Some trees next to the road, a lonley fence to some field, thickening fog and fading light. Serene silence, beautiful!
