A bank of fog engulfs fins in the Windows area of Arches National Park.

This was the first time I'd ever stood on a clear day and watched clouds get lower and lower until they became a ground fog. Quite spooky.

The sunlit fog rolled down the mountain like a waterfall in slow motion.

In June and July and most of August the entrance into San Francisco Bay is plagued by fog.The Pilot said that the Golden gate was like a big fire nozzle spraying fog into the bay. However go a mile or two north or South and despite it being 16c in the city it could easily be 28c or more.We berthed in Richmond about 7 miles or so to the North and it was invariably warm and clear....it was Mark twain who said......The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco......

a foggy day...

¡Disfrutad del fin de semana!

Have a great weekend!

The fog came down and the river overflowed, the ghost of the path just visible below the water. In Celtic myth fog was linked to Annwn, the otherworld. The norse believed it was the perpetual state off Niflheim, the land of cold and fog. To our northern ancestors of all kinds, it was a sign of the supernatural, of things beyond our understanding. Who, alone in a foggy wood, has not felt they were right?

Yeah, it's a thing, and it's exactly what it sounds like. Measurable moisture as a result of fog coalescing on tree needles or leaves, forming into drops, and then falling to the ground.

The Bull Run River, located here in the Mt. Hood National Forest, serves as a watershed and the main source of Portland's drinking water. It's also home to a forest of 500 year old trees and more than 250 species, including the threatened Northern Spotted Owl who's habitat depends on said old growth.

Studies have shown that within the Bull Run Watershed, fog drip from the massive Doug Firs add 35 inches of moisture a year. This adds up to a 40% increase vs. rain/snow alone, and plays a huge role in building and maintaining a diverse ecosystem. It's truly amazing how well Mother Nature designed our forests. They work in harmony with most of their inhabitants (modern humans being the exception) and even come with their own built in water catch system.

Thankfully the BRR is protected from the logging industry and others that wish to mortgage a healthy forest for a fatter wallet. As such, access is quite limited. However, this image of a forest steeped in fog down along the Umpqua River made me think about the impact that this miracle vapor can make, drop by drop.

The fog was thick as the sun tried to break through over the South fork of the Snake River in Idaho

Mauna Ulu has some awesome rock formations that I can explore for hours! I’ve finally captured the effect in which a light fog makes the stars look big and glowing.

Some fog started to show up over the fields around the river 'Dender' when I was taking this picture, which made it even better. :)

Bright sun and approaching fog.

Early morning fog and mist on the Fox River, at the Batavia River Walk, one of my favorite spots on the river. This is a favorite spot for fishermen, as there is an abundance of current seams and slower water that hold fish during high water. People catch smallmouth bass and muskie here.
