from a camp up on glyder fach in snowdonia. I got up to look at the stars. there was a full moon out illuminating the landscape. the cloud inversions started to roll up the mountain and then this happened. truely a magical sight to see.
From wiki:
"In the days leading up to June 19, 2013, Alberta, Canada, experienced heavy rainfall that triggered catastrophic flooding described by the provincial government as the worst in Alberta's history. Areas along the Bow, Elbow, Highwood, Red Deer, Sheep, Little Bow, and South Saskatchewan rivers and their tributaries were particularly affected. A total of 32 states of local emergency were declared and 28 emergency operations centres were activated as water levels rose and numerous communities were placed under evacuation orders."
We were there the very same day and lived through history! If we remained there for another hour, we would not be able to get out. Luckily I am still alive to tell the tale.

In some of the National Forests you can camp for free outside the organized campgrounds and that was the case with the Bridger-Teton National Forest. You can see the fire ring here of fishermen who had previously camped along the Green River not far below the Green River Lakes. A little fog always does wonders.
Trees on the ridges in the La Crosse Blufflands poke through the fog at sunrise. Photographed in the La Crosse Blufflands, a Mississippi Valley Conservancy protected land parcel.
Had to drop the car off this morning for a service and MOT. Proper pea souper when I left the house . But on my way home I could see the sun burning off the mist at the higher levels. Time for a walk with the camera then....
I'd seen the fog bow develop and by the time I found a half decent composition it had started to fade as quickly as it appeared. Quite a special sight to see nevertheless...
Fog covered the area in the evening and by the next morning, it was so dense you couldn't see a car with lights on at the end of the block. Taken on Pleasant Run Parkway in Irvington.
An hour before dawn and 66175's lights cut through the fog enveloping Lea Marston as it heads 4O43 04:28 Normanton to Southampton liner.
Each day starts afresh with new opportunities and a chance to get it right. This is a cool country morning with heavy fog on a river bottom.
