A new colony of a large number of immature fungi emerging from the cut end of an old tree trunk in Surrey woodland. I believe this is Bitter Oyster (Panellus stipticus).

Okay I have the camera 80% set up though I won't claim I have everything worked out yet. Damn auto ISO.

Ever wondered what a peppercorn looks like under the microscope, almost like an alien landscape if you ask me!,

This little hedgehog cactus is a perfect analogy for the Sonoran desert of the American Southwest. Spectacularly beautiful and dangerous for the unwary. This is a 7 image stack built with Helicon Focus software. Loads of fun to play with.

I had recently found this beautiful field of sunflowers. The last days here were quite rainy and as yesterday evening the clouds started to break up a bit I drove back to this field. It was great! before taking this shot I had plenty of different cloud formations in the sky and good light. But as so often theses days finally I end up editing the last picture of a shoot. This is so often the case when I'm shooting during sunset. I usually have enough time to get the whole magic light and sunset, I try around with a couple of compositions and then just before packing up my gear or even after packing up I setup again for a last shot. And in 3 out of 4 shoots this will be the picture I like the most.

This field of sunflowers also was a big challenge in case of composition, it was not easy to find the right flowers for the first row, either there where to few and I had emply corners or it was to much. Here I think I got a nice distribution in the foreground :-) And I loved the dramatic sky as a contrast! Bad weather in germany sometimes also makes for a good shoot, but I'd really prefer the coast again :-)

I love the colour and the way the water formed in such an even distribution of tiny hemispheres that magnify the petal detail.

This metallic soldierfly is a common presence here and a good subject for testing lenses because of the body covered by fine fur which challenge lenses quite a bit.

This pot was made by Thomas Polacca (1935-2003), one of the first male Hopi-Tewa potters, from Polacca on First Mesa, Hopi Nation, Arizona, USA, probably in 1975. From what I can find in the books, he was a grandson of the famous potter Nampeyo who revived Hopi pottery making in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The traditional way of making pots involves assembling clay rolls, smoothening and polishing the surfaces and painting with plant material and iron oxides. We found it in a shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This image is the result of 12 shots combined by focus stacking for increased depth of field, using Lightroom and dedicated stacking software Helicon Focus. Nikkor 2.8/105mm macro lens at f8, D850. Jar diameter is c. 12 cm (5 inches). At these settings, the normal depth of field would be a few mm. Sixth in series of shooting at home while in social distancing - what do you think about this one?
