For the first time in my memory we actually smelled the dead Velella a mile away from the beach. I saw in a Neighborhood post that it has been called The Great Stink of 2025. It's not THAT bad, but it is unusual. And has probably already dissipated in the past few days as the small animals dry.

Noting how many jillions of them are on this beach, one has to wonder how far they extend up and down the state's beaches. (I have read that they have been at least as far away as the San Francisco Bay, 220 miles north.)
Found this moth sleeping under the car early this morning, so of course I thought it was an easy target for a photo or 2.
And yes, it was sleeping because I gave it a slight poke with my finger and it fluttered around a bit :P
