A monarch. Butterflies have been scarce this year.
A walk around Asylum Lake in early fall, early evening, after work.

This is my first picture in a studio ever(!), and I know the lighting etc isn't the best but as you know - more practice, better results. Model/dancer: Leanza.
I shot this little beauty on the banks of the Little Buffalo River in a city park in Jasper, Ark. He and a bunch more butterflies were slurping the water from the wet sand. I wish I'd had my poor-man's macro set-up with me. Does anyone know the species?
UPDATE: tater48gem, who has an impressive collection of butterfly photos in his stream, says this is an eastern swallowtail.
We ran into unusual Tigers above 3500' on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They were small and continuously fluttered their wings while nectaring, every single one of about 15 -20 we saw along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Boneparte's Gulls are a migrant in Howard County. They make brief appearances at our local lakes. They don't often stay long....and are such a treat to see. A delicate and beautiful small gull.
Again no idea what sort but its definitely a Filipino butterfly. Could even be the same species as the first one just with different lighting.
...off to Maine.
I know I haven't had the chance to visit much lately. We are off to Maine for a week and hopefully I will get a chance to visit when I get back.

The village of Randwick in Gloucestershire attempts to break world record for Longest Bunting Line. Section of the home made bunting measuring 4864.2m in total length, with 19884 flags, strung up over the village in celebration of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
