New Year Resolution #3: Flexible by Forty. I am tight as a drum and I feel like I am always on the verge of injury. This isn't a very artistic or creative shot, but hey, one pic a day and this has been on my mind.
You know what they say about "someone's trash is someone else's treasure"...? Well, it's true! We still have a dump in town, although they refer to it as the Seabrook "Transfer" Station, and once in awhile I will bring a bag of trash there, usually on trash pickup day when I forget to put it out... Well, I stopped there last week and these two vintage Flexible Flyer sleds were leaning up against the building. I made a comment about what good shape they were in and why would anyone want to throw them away? The person working there said, "If you want them, you can have them." So, I brought them home!
I used to have one as a kid and I them used as Christmas decorations today. Not sure if I will try to resell them or keep them, but either way, they are both treasures to me!

Kenneth Snelson (born June 29, 1927) is a contemporary sculptor and photographer. His sculptural works, composed of flexible and rigid components, are arranged according to the idea of tensegrity.
The height and strength of Snelson's sculptures, which are often delicate in appearance, depend on the tension between rigid pipes and flexible cables. This is achieved through "a win-win combination of push and pull."
Snelson has been selected to work with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, on the design of an antenna for the new Freedom Tower.

Some facts:
Cats make their living in the wild as predators, and to be successful, they must be quick, powerful, and flexible. From a sitting start, they can spring up to nine times their height, and they can narrow their shoulders and chest to squeeze through almost impossibly tight spaces. Cats are able to rotate their supple spines more than many other animals and can twist their bodies to a much greater extent. Cats' vertebrae are very flexibly connected and have especially elastic cushioning disks between them. This limber spine allows cats to perform their elegant and graceful acrobatic feats, but it also contributes to their speed as runners. To reach top speed, about thirty miles an hour, (48 Kmh) cats lengthen their stride, and thus increase their speed, by alternately extending and flexing their backs. When the cat pushes off to start a new stride, with claws serving as spikes for traction, its body stretches to its maximum length, with every stride propelling the cat about three times the length of its body.

My birch trees are holding their own in the wake of ice storms and snow storms. I am concerned about them but they are hanging in there. We are not forecast to be above freezing until Sunday, argh... i'll keep praying for my trees.
p.s. 1-31-09... My birches are doing well. The sun has come out today and that is helping to melt the ice... even tho' it is still 17F. Tomorrow is to warm above freezing, so that will melt even more of the ice. I can now breathe a sigh of relief...
