U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (July 16, 2012) An embarked security team aboard the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204) fired upon a small motor vessel after it disregarded warnings and rapidly approached the U.S. ship near Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates.

In accordance with Navy force protection procedures, the sailors aboard Rappahannock used a series of non-lethal, preplanned responses to warn the vessel before resorting to lethal force.

The U.S. crew repeatedly attempted to warn the vessel’s operators to turn away from their deliberate approach. When those efforts failed to deter the approaching vessel, the security team on Rappahannock fired rounds from a 50-caliber machine gun. The incident is under investigation. You could view the Fleet Week Parade in Manhattan at Pier 84 or get a ticket from Intrepid Museum to view the parade at Pier 86. Both piers are next to each other. Pier 86 is where the Intrepid Museum docked. Pier 84 is a public area, and everyone could go there. Pier 86 is not. You need a ticket to get in. I got the ticket from Intrepid Museum and viewed the parade at Pier 86. They provided free light refreshments, fruit salads, Danish pastry, coffee, tea and juice, etc. Light music was broadcast for relaxation before the Fleet Week Parade sailing by. USS Bataan, LHD-5, (Amphibious assault ship from Norfolk, VA) was the first ship to arrive. Then followed by HMS Protector (United Kingdom), and Yard Patrol Boats (from US Naval Academy). The weather was nice and sunny. It’s good for outdoor activities.

Big Water of Fleet Viaduct, on the “Port Road” railway line from Dumfries to Stranraer which closed in 1965. At this point the line is well away from the main roads and finding it proved difficult. However, the scenery is fantastic and makes you wish you’d had a chance to travel on the line, or that it was still open.

San Francisco Fleet Week 2016 finished with a bang on Sunday, with another spectacular airshow, featuring (among others) the Bretling Jet Team, The Patriots, and the Blue Angels, who were competing to see who could get the most "wow" moments with the crowd!
