The Fleet biplane trainers came into existence in 1928 as the Consolidated Model 14, a civilian trainer loosely based on the military PT-3 and NY-1 trainers. In 1929, Consolidated turned production over to a subsidiary company named after Consolidateds president Ruben Fleet. All the Fleet models are basically identical with the only difference being the engine installed on each model. The Fleets proved to be very popular trainers throughout the 1930s and into the early 1940s. Approximately 1,250 of all versions were built.

Decorated boats participate in the 66th annual Blessing of the Fleet in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, May 3, 2015. The first fleet blessing was held by St. Margaret's Catholic Church in 1949, carrying on a long European tradition of asking God's favor for a bountiful seafood harvest and protection from the perils of the sea. The highlight of the event is a blessing of the boats by the local Catholic archbishop and the tossing of a ceremonial wreath in memory of those who have lost their lives at sea. The event also includes a land parade and a parade of decorated boats that slowly cruise through the bayou. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)

The fishing fleet in the middle of the night. I had to use a very fast setting on my camera because the light illuminating the vessels is merely the street lighting on the pier and from the town.
