I had seen some flat lay photography that had this dark, rich feel to it, and I thought I'd try my hand. Strangely satisfying...

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 14th of August is “flat lay”, where a photo is taken of objects arranged on a flat surface, captured from directly above. I’ve never done a great deal of this type of photography before, so it was a great challenge for me. I settled upon photographing a selection of my Playmobil princesses because their skirts, which come in two halves, help them to lie flat, as does their body design. The difficulty really lay (pardon the pun) in whom would I pick, as there are so many varying colours and designs. I’ve tried to pick a range to show the variations available in the different Playmobil characters available. Whilst I did deliberately give them all blonde hair to stand out against the black background, as you can see, not all princesses wear pink. I hope that this flat lay catches your eye, and makes you smile!
Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. Production began in 1974. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face. A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line. Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets. New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued. Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors.
I was happy to discover that the radishes in my garden were ready to pick. I couldn't resist using them as my subject for today. Normally, I am not a fan of raw radishes but discovered that they are quite tasty when quick-pickled. Do you enjoy radishes? What is your favorite way to prepare them?

I've used this bouquet before, it was my daughter-in-law's from when she was a bridesmaid a few years ago.

Een van de dingen die mijn moeder vaak zei, betekenis: wie zo vroeg wil genieten komt bedrogen uit.
The weather here recently shifted to rain in rather biblical proportions, so I thought I'd stay indoors and try another flat lay image. Quite satisfying, actually.

This is my first attempt at something called a “flatlay”! I’ve been wanting to try it for some time now, and decided today is the day....no Santa’s were harmed in the filming of this project, although some appear arthritic and old. That’s because they are! I love my vintage Santas, and think I’ve put them to good use.
Day 364/365:
This is part of the Christmas bouquet my eldest son and his wife bought for me. It's still going strong and came in handy when I couldn't think what to take a photo of by 10:30 this evening. A case of that'll do for the penultimate day! It's been a busy couple of days as our grandson is staying with us so there is much fun to be had and he has us in stitches with his antics and the things he says.
Here is a second shot from the top. I lighted from the upper right of the photo and used a reflector to lessen the shadow side. Photo is straight out of camera. :)
Three vintage small paper fans from Japan discovered when going through locker of Pam's father in attic being cleaned following passing of her mother a couple of months ago in preparing to sell vacant home. Pam’s longtime deceased father was a Marine who served several years in the Pacific Theater of WW II. The small box had never been noticed or opened. An unsuspected find.

It's half term holidays here so we are doing a lot of grand parenting this week. It's leaving little time for photography (or Flickr) so I had to use a flash for this flat lay, rather than my usual natural light. I gave it a vintage look in NIK software. I used the same rice paper as with yesterday's photo and added the vintage book that was gifted to me recently.

WIT: I love makeup, my face is my canvas and I love experimenting with different colours and cosmetics. This is only a small selection of all my cosmetics, haha!
I improvised a light box to shoot this. Not my usual dark and moody shot but liked the almost airport x-ray look to this!
HMM!
I love Summer fruits :)
Smile on Saturday - theme: "Flat Lay" :)
In EXPLORE - 14. August 2021, # 108 :)
I had meant to shoot this yesterday but I ended up with that lovely cormorant photo instead so I decided to delay the 'hello May' photo by a day which turned out to be the right decision since the weather is a little blah today anyway.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

Thought I'd take a break from the animals today and shoot a flat lay instead. It feels like it's been a while since I set up a shot like this and it seems to suit a Sunday mood.
The pattern I'm using for these squares can be found here.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

The flowers are making their second appearance today and they will more than likely be back again.
A couple of days ago I mentioned that I had been invited to change my Flickr login details. I changed the email address but wasn't asked for a password. Nothing happened after that but the banner disappeared from the top of the page so I am not sure what is going on. The thing is I never actually log out of Flickr it's pinned to my desktop so is always there. I'm wary of logging g out in case I get locked out of my account so for the mean time I will carry on as normal and hope that Flickr doesn't lock me out anyway. Any help or advice on this is most welcome.
Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend.
Day 192/365:
Alternative title: Desperate measures!
I hadn't got a photo, the light was going and I haven't got my props with me. The other day I managed to acquire some music sheets and this little vintage book of British Grasses, Sedges and Rushes. To get better light I arranged them on a table outside, placed this grass and sprinkled some rose petals...immediately the wind picked up and scattered most of the petals far and wide. Try chasing after rose petals with a bad back. So I used my iPhone 13 Pro again for this one. Edited in Snapseed then added some textures (my own).
I've been saving cans to take this photo for a couple of months. I guess the time has finally come to rein in my energy drink addiction.
Shooting info: three exposures (0.8, 3, 13 sec. at f 16) taken on a Manfrotto tripod with a horizontal arm, combined in LR, curtain-diffused window light from the left, bounced back with a silver reflector from the right.
