Three o'clock, this morning, I woke up in a dream.
Thought I heard a flathead motor roar, I thought I smelled gasoline.
A feeling came upon me, that I ain't had in years.
Something like a hot dry wind, whistling past my ears.
Saying "time, time, time is all you got".
There's a memory that's still burning, way down in my mind.
And that's why, I'm going out and trying, a flathead one more time.
I ain't seen my racing buddies in thirty years, or more.
One by one I lost them, out on the dry lake floor.
We learnt to push those flathead cars as hard as they could go.
Just like old Whiskey Bob, down on Thunder Road.
I hear their voices calling, just across the finish line.
And that's why, I'm going out and trying, a flathead one more time.
I'll get back to you baby, don't you have no fear.
'Cos I been there, and I wrecked that, and baby I'm still here.
But I can't take you with me, when I cross the finish line.
And that's why, I'm going out and trying, a flathead, one, more, time.
Time, time, time is all you got.

It was a perfectly still day for fishing. Sure enough, the bay was flat when we arrived at Rosebud at about 8am.
Raymond was the first to strike gold with his octopus! He caught it on a fish-shaped lure with a shrimp for good measure :)
Julia's dad went next with a good-sized flathead. All of us got at least one fish for a total of nine flathead, all around 27cm to 28cm, and one octopus. All this in around 2 hours.
Cleaning them is another tough job, although the flathead slime did help to keep the fine scales from flying all over the kitchen. I did find some roe in one of the fish though :)

OHV conversion or maybe just a head cover, though that doesn't seem practical for a flathead engine's cooling. I notice how the spark plug wires are routed inside it. Stephens, Denver Colorado
Speedy Bill Smith bought used speed equipment from racers in the early years as they moved on to something better. He started a business selling it which grew to the big retail business it is today, Speedway Motors.
- Day Three -
The day started off a bit rainy and cloudy, but cleared up as we checked out some antique stores in the area. The sun began to shine through and we ended up having a gorgeous boat tour of Flathead Lake!

This sits inside a 1929 Model A Roadster sitting on a 1932 frame. Ford V8 Flathead, Navarro heads, 3 Stromberg 97 carburetors with progressive linkage, 3-speed manual transmission on the column and rumble seat. Built, owned and driven by the famous Ermie Immerso. This was a really nice looking car up close, it sold for $27,500.00.
For three days I got to marvel at the clouds on Flathead Lake in Big Fork, Montana. The sunbeams that continuously shot through the billowing clouds were breathtaking.
I particularly love this shot because it's taken only 20 minutes before the next photo in this stream, and yet the sky is completely different.
Now the only thing missing was the train going over this bridge!! Well this is Calen's last day...don't think I could make it much longer....aughhh! lol :)
Have a wonderful Monday!

I caught this Flathead out of the Iowa River in Marshalltown on 8-24-09. It weighed 26 lbs and measured 38" long. Caught him on a 25 year-old Garcia rod & reel using 14# test "Trilene" line.
