This area is new to me..I'm familiar with Flathead Lake and it's river near Polson, MT. and Kalispell, MT, but not over in this area....I've really been checking it out...soon to move on! lol :)

Best viewed in light box!

View of the Mountains of Glacier National Park from Lone Pine State Park on the outskirts of Kalispell, Montana. There's a good three layers of cloud cover there this time of year (early June, still pretty much springtime there, note the fresh snow in the mountains from recent 'rainfall'). They don't call it "Big Sky Country" for nothing!

Sam has been working on a home here. I'm so sad he couldn't get nice pics, as we've been dealing with dense fog for over a month. Sure gets depressing.

One of my favorite joys of photography is capturing images of vastness..of open space.....and this shot doesn't show as much as I'd like...but it's197 sq miles, 30 miles long! I grew up here and spent many a summer days enjoying it's beaches! :)

L is very beautiful with this! :)

One of only a few hot rods in this show. Bellingham, Washington.

After getting up early - with minimal amounts of sleep for the 3rd day in a row on our big mountain snowboarding trip - we started heading home early in the morning only to be graced by a beautiful dark orange sunrise over flathead lake. We found a private pier and enjoyed the spectacular scene for a half hour. This is one of many shots I like..

Day 5 West Trip (7/11)

We crammed lots of great adventures into Day 5. We left Missoula in the morning and stopped at the National Bison Range about 45 minutes north. In addition to the large herd of bison (we counted around 70), there were numerous pronghorn, deer and a young Golden Eagle. Takes about 2 hours to do the driving tour and it's totally worth it. We then headed to Flathead Lake where we had a lovely lakeside lunch. Finally made it to Glacier NP by mid afternoon and stopped here at Lake McDonald. Tomorrow we will go across the Going to the Sun Road, which will bring back amazing memories. Back in 1970 my sister and I did it on bicycles on an American Youth Hostel trip.

Sam had to go pick up some materials for a job so guess who got to tag along and take some pictures? LOL I'm pooped!!!! :)

Located in the northwest corner of the state of Montana, 7 miles (11 km) south of Kalispell, it is approximately 30 miles (48 km) long and 16 miles (26 km) wide, covering 197 square miles (510 km2). It is a similar size to Minnesota's Mille Lacs Lake, but smaller than Red Lake. It is about half the area of San Francisco Bay (main bay). It is larger in surface area than Lake Tahoe, but it is much smaller in volume due to Tahoe's depth. Flathead Lake has a maximum depth of 370.7 ft (113.0 m), and an average of 164.7 ft (50.2 m). This makes Flathead Lake deeper than the average depths of the Yellow Sea or the Persian Gulf. Flathead Lake is in a scenic part of Montana, 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Glacier National Park, and is flanked by two scenic highways, which wind along its curving shoreline. On the west side is U.S. Route 93, and on the east, is Route 35.

It is a brutal fact that we did not stay in Montana long enough on our recent trip. We were really only there 2 days, and that is a gross injustice. Alas, we had already made rental car reservations in Spokane that we couldn't change. At least we were able to drive along the scenic route near Flathead Lake at sunrise. It was magnificent. I cannot express to you with words how pure Montana is and how much my heart already aches to go back.

This is a scene near Glacier National Park entrance. Do you see the train tunnel on the left? The mountains in the back are in Glacier Park....this is so beautiful over here in the Spring...I must come back then!!!! 👍 One click to large view is much nicer!! :)

A scene of the lake that Sam took a week ago of Flathead. The water is way low this year.....it's due to natural conditions and controlling the water. I don't really understand what they're doing right at this time.

Boy we have high winds today and high temps....terrible fire conditions right now!!!

So smoky on the Easter shore yesterday.
