The view looking east from the top of Flat Iron in the Superstition Mountains of Phoenix, Arizona.

July 9, 2023 - First stop this morning was to learn about the Noeirinha Salt Flats in Aveiro, Portugal.

"Aveiro has always been one of the main points of salt extraction in Portugal. This has gained enormous prominence in the economy of the region. Salt was so valuable that even today we receive the "salary" as a form of payment for our work." Previous text: www.zeca.pt/visita-as-salinas-de-aveiro/

Flat Iron Peak is part of Superstition Mountain in Arizona USA.

The Superstition Mountains, popularly referred to as "The Superstitions" or "The Supes", are a range of mountains in Arizona located to the east of the Phoenix metropolitan area. They are anchored by Superstition Mountain, a large mountain that is a popular recreation destination for residents of the Phoenix, Arizona area.

The mountain range is in the federally-designated Superstition Wilderness Area, and includes a variety of natural features in addition to the mountain that is its namesake. Weaver's Needle, a prominent landmark and rock climbing destination set behind and to the east of Superstition Mountain, is a tall erosional remnant [1] that plays a significant role in the legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine. Peralta Canyon, on the northeast side of Superstition Mountain, contains a popular trail that leads up to Freemont Saddle, which provides a very picturesque view of Weaver's Needle. Miner's Needle is another prominent formation in the wilderness and a popular hiking destination.

As with most of the terrain surrounding the Phoenix metropolitan area, the Superstition Mountains have a desert climate, with high summer temperatures and a handful of perennial sources of water. The altitude in the more remote, eastern portion of the wilderness is higher than the western portion, which lowers temperatures slightly. Numerous hiking trails cross the mountains from multiple access points, including the Peralta Trailhead, the most popular.[2] The Lost Dutchman State Park, located on the west side of Superstition Mountain, includes several short walking trails.

I captured this on a recent photo shoot. I used my Circular Polarizing lens which helped with the bright sun. Canon 50D with 55-250 lens, Focal length 55mm, Aperture f6.4, Exposure 1,200, ISO 100. I used Photomatix with 5 duplicate images to do the HDR processing and finalized the image in CS3. I think the black and white gives it a mysterious look which accentuates the legends of the mountain.

I consider myself an extremely lucky person, however I puncture more tubes than anyone I've ever met. (That's what she said) So to prove that I am not making this all up just to flap my gums I'm going to catalogue all the junk I find lodged in my tires.

This one I had coming. My flat proof randonneurs were out of commission due to a previous flat ( pinch flat from jumping a curb ) so I had to slay the knobbies on my commute. On the way home, about a block from my house, I heard this little devil solidly enter my tire. This is why I don't run giant expensive knobbies in the city.

The 2008 Severn Estuary Forum was held on Friday the 19th of September at the Paget Rooms in Penarth. There followed a cruise of the estuary on the MV Balmoral to Clevedon on the English coast, and a sail past of Steep Holm and Flat Holm Islands, before returning to Penarth. The day was hailed as an outstanding success by many organisers and delegates alike.

The strategy for the Severn Estuary (2001) identified the need for an annual Forum. The 1st Severn Estuary Forum, hosted by the Severn Estuary Partnership, took place in 2006. The Forum continues to provide delegates from around the Severn Estuary with an opportunity to hear from a wide range of excellent speakers from informed debate on current issues. The Severn Estuary Forum brings together people from all interests and backgrounds to work together for the future of the Severn Estuary. Representatives from government, industry and communities are invited to discuss common interests. The Forum is an excellent opportunity to consider regional and local implications of issues which are under the spotlight nationally and internationally. Participants benefit from the chance to:

- meet people with similar and different interests in the estuary;

- debate topical issues and learn something new about the Severn Estuary;

- share information and promote awareness of your interests.

The Forum also informs and guides the work of the Severn Estuary Partnership, which works all year round to encourage people to work together, through a wide range of services and projects.
