PA_1442 [40 points]

One of the two space invaders installed right after the COVID-19 lockdown was released on 11/05/2020. People were allowed again to leave there homes without a permission and Invader took the opportunity to put up some fresh space invaders like this one.

A photographic revisit of PA_1148 since the building has been painted in bright colors in 2024 or 2025. This invader is already more than 10 years 'active'.

Almost 5 years after the invasion of the other side by PA_872 (invasion date 03/08/2010, 50 points) the 'B-side' has invaded as well. Same invader, but inverted colors (the other side has a black space invader with a red flash!).

PA_1452 [20 points]

Sunday morning in January 2021, the morning after 12 hours of curfew, almost nobody on the streets. Almost...apart from me with my FlashInvaders phone and camera.

The most beautiful summary in mosaic tiles of the year 2020. The year 2020 was a bad year for Invader. In Paris he has placed only 18 new space invaders. In total he placed 102 space invaders, most of which of course in Marseille. The third wave in this city includes 84 space invaders. Due to the lockdown, there have been no other waves.

In 2020 the number of FlashInvaders users grew by 35,692 to 153,672 and a total of nearly 2.5 million space invaders were flashed!

This one is located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris and was number 3960 in the world.

PA_1205 [100 points]

I guess this is one of the biggest space invaders in Paris. Very well visible from the métro line 6 between the stations Chevaleret and Quai de la Gare along the Boulevard Vincent Auriol. Almost 3 three stories high on one of the buildings of Hôpital La Pitié-Salpêtrière. This character is nobody else than House (when flashing this one with the app FlashInvaders it says "HOUSE IS IN DA HOUSE".

House (also called House, M.D.) is an American television medical drama that originally ran on the Fox network for eight seasons, from November 16, 2004 to May 21, 2012. The series' main character is Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), a pain medication-dependent, unconventional, misanthropic medical genius who leads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey. The series' premise originated with Paul Attanasio, while David Shore, who is credited as creator, was primarily responsible for the conception of the title character. The series' executive producers included Shore, Attanasio, Attanasio's business partner Katie Jacobs, and film director Bryan Singer. It was filmed largely in Century City. [ Wikipedia ]

PA_197 [30 points]

A boy meets girl moment on an alternately sunny and rainy morning in the 18ème arrondissement of Paris.

Getting older does not automatically means getting uglier. During FlashInvader walk in the 18ème I learned that number 197 looks better than when I visited almost 10 (!) years ago when it was painted over. A space invader restorer has done his or her job perfectly. At least one mirror eye is visible again and the real colors of the tiles are black again.

52 Weeks Project

In most cases, street art is only temporary. But sometimes you'd hope it was forever. The big answer and solution to this is re-activation...

Loaction: Amsterdam, Jordaan (exact location is hidden)

Coordinates: 52°22'40" N 4°52'56" E (rough estimation)

Reason: This space invader with ID AMS_04 has been deleted years ago. But in October 2015 a fan has re-activated this number 04 on exact the right location with exact the right type and color of mosaïc tiles. With the introduction of the online game application FlashInvaders some fans felt the urge to remake space invaders which have been removed from the walls. This is happening a lot in Paris (to date almost 50 space invaders have been 're-activated'), but also in Bastia, London, La Ciotat, Lyon, Basel, Bilbao, Rotterdam, San Diego and L.A.

Invasion of Amsterdam: Amsterdam was one of the first cities outside France which have been invaded. So far only one 'wave' (the one of 1999) with 26 space invaders and in total score of 360 points. As we speak 10 of them are visible including one 'reactivated', this AMS_04 (10 points).

FlashInvaders: At the moment: 7 490 Players / 234 588 Flashes / 8 413 570 Pts (23/02/2016 09h40)

Re-Activation of Amsterdam: Not all deleted space invaders are known by their location but still 11 of the deleted space invaders could be re-activated because data (location, shape, type and color of tiles used) is available. Could be an interesting job for 2016.

Weather: A clear and sunny but cold Winter morning, -2° C

May 1968. The volatile period of civil unrest in France during May 1968 was punctuated by demonstrations and massive general strikes as well as the occupation of universities and factories across France. Location: At +281 meters altitude on top of the Tour Eiffel in Paris (F)

Coordinates: Click on the link below to see the exact location:

Reasons:

[1] The last time I visited the top of the Tour Eiffel was way before I started to work for Thalys (before 2001), so it was about time.

[2] The compulsion to visit the top of the Tour Eiffel was reinforced by the fact that Invader installed PA_1431 on the top at a height of 281 meters.

Invader: Hiding up in the clouds, PA_1431 is the highest space invader ever placed in Paris. It has landed at the 7th of November 2019 on the top of the Eiffel Tower where it enjoys the great view!

"At the occasion of the screening of the very last version of the movie Art4Sspace at the Interntional Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, I have added 31 new creations to the city of the center of France. Among various themes, they refer to movies and cinema but also to what Clermont Ferrand is famous for : its gothic cathedrale, its volcanos, its Michelin factories and its Serge Gainsbourg street" (Invader)

A second cryptopunk space invader landed in Paris. This time in the 18ème arrondissement in the quartier Goutte d'Or above the Olympic Café. When you are visiting a fresh new space invader then you have a very good chance to meet fellow space invader fans to flash this new invader.

CryptoPunks is a non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the Ethereum blockchain. The project was launched in June 2017 by the Larva Labs studio, a two-person team consisting of Canadian software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson. The experimental project was inspired by the London punk scenes, the cyberpunk movement, and electronic music artists Daft Punk. There are 10,000 unique CryptoPunks (6,039 male and 3,840 female), all of which are made digitally scarce through the use of blockchain technology. Each one was algorithmically generated through computer code and thus no two characters are exactly alike, with some traits being rarer than others.

Mosaic art at ESA’s ESRIN Earth observation centre near Rome, Italy, placed under a mockup of Europe's launcher for small satellites Vega. French artist Invader is installing his art at ESA establishments around Europe and even on the International Space Station.

ESA has been monitoring Earth with its environmental satellites since the 1970s, keeping a constant watch over our planet by analysing satellite data to protect our environment.

The first space invader mosaic art was found by ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti during her mission on the International Space Station. She installed ‘Space2’ in Europe’s Columbus space laboratory. Since then, space-themed art has appeared at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany, at our Redu Centre in Belgium, our space operations centre in Germany and ESA’s technical heart in the Netherlands, and it even took over our headquarters in Paris, France.

Mona Lisa made by Invader and installed with 10x10 cm tiles not far from the real Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci between 1503 and 1506. It was Invader's 2941th space invader in the world.

52 Weeks Project

Space invader hunt of the Summer of 2021!

Location: Corniche Président John Kennedy corner Rue Boudouresque in the quartier Endoume in the 7ème arrondissement of Marseille (F).

Coordinates: Click on the link to see the exact location on Google Maps:

43°16'58.2"N 5°21'01.8"E

Reason: An overnight in Marseille extended with one day to find as much new space invaders as possible. In the Summer of 2020 the third invasion wave of Marseille took place and 84 new invaders were added to this city and its wide area. All under the project Invasion Planete Marseille.

My FlashInvaders Score:

During the three days in Marseille I found 46 space invaders of the third wave. In total 59/97 in Marseille found/captured/flashed. My grand total of flashed space invaders was 1405 after this mission. I have scored 1710 points during this space invader hunt and climbed from rank 699 to 588.

As we speak (08/08/2021) there are 176.500 Flashinvaders players and in total 3.999 space invaders on the world map of Invader.

Invasion Planete Marseille: Till August 2020 I found and flashed all 13 space invaders of wave 1 (MARS_01 - MARS_11 - 2004 and wave 2 (MARS_12 and MARS_13). But during wave 3 in August 2020 the number of space invaders went up to 97. In total 84 space invaders on my list again. Wave 3 took almost one month and started on 24/07/2020 and ended on 20/08/2020.

Endoume: is the quartier I found MARS_63. It is part of the 7ème arrondissement. Endoume is also home to the Silvain theater, the Endoume marine station, the Marseille tide gauge on the Corniche (le marégraphe de Marseille), the False money bridge and the small port of Vallon des Auffes.

Endoume is crossed by two axes structuring the district: the Corniche Président-John-Fitzgerald-Kennedy (north-west south-east axis) and the rue d'Endoume (north-east south-west axis) and includes Malmousque, at its the westernmost end, sometimes considered a district in its own right. A low outlined space invader of the late ninetees of which I have never seen the original before. Because the street has been raised, the re-activated space invader had to be adjusted and misses half of the tiles. It might be the reason why this one is not flashable with the application FlashInvaders (as we speak in February 2020; more than 125,000 players and more than 6.5 million flashes!).

I flashed this one with other light conditions and and I succeeded.
