I was shooting myself in the mirror for a while, then I got up real close and used the flash. Out popped all this dust that was on the mirror, and it looked like the flash was more like a camera-mounted fireworks generator. Hence, this explodation of superosity.
DiY Macro Flash, very temp wiring to see if one control unit can fire 2 flash bulbs, the flash heads are fitted to a cut down petal hood by a small ball head. Cost at time of shot US$30!!!
This shot was taken at the Illinois Railway Museum (www.irm.org). On Oct 3, 2009 they had a WWII battle reenactment.

i forgot to hook up the flash on my sx-70 before taking this picture. as a result the shutter stayed open for a long time (this was indoors at night) and created this crazy picture. in hindsight, i don't mind and like the result.

ANYWAY. Why have I never used a flash gun properly before?! I was doing some multiple flash work, which didn't go to well, because I couldn't be bothered to use a tripod, and it wasn't as dark as I'd have liked it to be. But I got bored of multiple flash half way through and I thought this looked REALLY pretty. Plus we've had a bit of a self portrait over load lately. So heres something that.. Isn't me.
Anyway, so I'm currently using a flash gun that my grandad used to use. It is sort of weird using a flash gun thats OLDER than I am. But I'll live. It sucks cos I can't connect it in properly otherwise you only get the one flash and the built in flash still tries to pop up as well. Ah well. Hopefully someone will buy me a more up to date one at some point.

For years I'd heard about the mythical green flash. Tonight I finally saw one. Note the green aura just as the sun is going behind the horizon.

2 walls with mirrors, the 3rd with a large reflectie bay window... humm ... i give up .... took this bracketed and enfused. Sorry not brilliant and dominant yellow isn't illustrative ... but make your mind up.
Strobist: on left, 3 SB800 CR, 2 above, 1 bellow, 1 in the background, shifted around with the Nikon PC-e 24mm , 3 vertical stitches...
