Rock flakes have arranged themselves into a pattern on a beach in east Iceland.

This the last one from my snowflake shoot. Not perfect on my part, still need to work on this technique.

Some Flakes from this morning. My search is on for the perfect flake before Winter ends.

I love these old street signs, but they're fast disappearing...

These famous breakfast flakes claim to be 'frosted'.

Closer inspection reveals the flakes are in fact glazed with their sugary allure. A healthy and nutritious start to your day?

HMM.

As the snow fell, Renzo made it a point to devour as many flakes as possible!

U705 just east of Manchester, IA. 1/19/20.

It was snowing, so I went out to check the snow to see if it was worth photographing. The flakes were tiny averaging about 1 to 2 mm, with a lot of snow debris.

Would see plate snow flakes, but they were extremely difficult to find in the macro lens. I saw this tiny flake, barely 2mm diameter.

I was fascinated with the 3 dimesional structure of this snow flake. It seem to take on a plastic appearance, and getting the light to be at the right angle was crucial to actually seeing the detail. Using my LED ring light gaffer taped to the front of the lens taken at night.

A ten minute showshower today was very pretty but not long enough to leave much on the ground.

I had fun with my camera, macro kit, and lights...and I really like how they turned out. Now help me choose my 365 for yesterday.

It was my first time to shoot with my 30D under the falling snow. It was Friday, a less stressful week day, so that I brought my camera. I took some random shots when I left the school. I have not thought that it could give sharp images that show the minute snow flakes. I think the best way to get crisp details of such things, is to shoot at small DOF. Then the tiny subjects will be defined from the blurry background. The snow flakes lesson taught me this :)

PS: It's been so cold and dry lately in our area. The temperature is now reaching below -10 C degress. I cannot go for shooting, my fingers and ears would get numb in a few minutes walk outside.
