Just thought I'd share... a bit of snow again today :)
So spring is on a temporary hiatus.
And yeah, still running behind
6 years ago I never would have believed that the image above was a real snowflake. I'm not sure there were even images like this then. But I've gotten better at sensing which flakes might be interesting, and have been motivated by the amazing images other's have caught. But there it is, within minutes of several other astounding flakes caught tonight. An unbelievably colorful flake. Scientificaly its simple enough: tapered cavities setting up variable interference coloration of a reflection from within them.
Utrecht after few days of real cold, finally some 30cm of snow.

Got my moose flakes for cereal that morning. lol Found her at the end of my driveway with her mama. Never knew how challenging it could be to focus through snowflakes before and I'm a winter girl. I am not tired of winter yet, so, let it snow at least another 2 feet. Can't believe it is almost February already. I kept Rooster inside so I could get a few closeups without spooking them, surprisingly, these two tended to be creatures of habit for a few more visits because they wanted something I have. I will show the mama next in a video.
If you follow my flickr, this is not the first time you saw those little guys... :) There the same one as here! www.flickr.com/photos/lynxdaemon/33513879803/in/album-721...

It snowed for a while around noon hour, so I tried shooting some more snow. The condition was perfect. It was below -8C and not overly windy. I shot all of these on a laser disc in my garden shed and am happy with the results. This one was an experiment from from 5 stacked images.

Vicky, the Viking lives in Bavaria. Flake is the name of his village.
Vicky was/is a beloved children's animated film series about the adventures of a viking boy named Vicky. In 2009 a live action comedy feature film (Vicky and the Strong Men) has been shot here. The set of the viking village is still there. This is the entrance, closed. Apparently the vikings are not here in winter, maybe they went South...
