A display of flags for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee at The Fisherman's Hospital in Great Yarmouth. I've tried and failed to decifer any message that might be there in the flags so if anyone else can help me out please do so :)
The Corporation of Great Yarmouth founded the hospital in 1702. It was set up as Almshouses for 'decayed' fishermen: providing housing for twenty fishermen and their wives aged sixty and over who could no longer provide for themselves. Now it has been converted into private residences.
Turks and Caicos is an archipelago of 40 low-lying coral islands in the Atlantic Ocean, a British Overseas Territory southeast of the Bahamas. The gateway island of Providenciales, known as Provo, is home to expansive Grace Bay Beach, with luxury resorts, shops and restaurants. Scuba-diving sites include a 14-mile barrier reef on Provo’s north shore and a dramatic 2,134m underwater wall off Grand Turk island.
Following 911, the Fire Department of New York created a memorial "flag" displaying the names of all 343 firefighters who gave their lives that day. Each year the FDNY reproduces 343 memorial tribute flags to be flown during the week of September 11th. In 2006, the memorial flag displayed here was flown at Ground Zero (World Trade Center) as a tribute to those fallen firefighters. In 2009, Members of the FDNY gifted this flag to City College's EMS Department and our future paramedics and firefighters.
At my daughter's socer game, I liked the fading sunlight shinning on the parent doing flag duty on the sidelines and the colours from the flag.
I liked the repetition here, and my outtakes were a good lesson that sometimes too much of that blurry background can be well...too much.
Made a mobile out of some plastic green army men. At first I was just shooting against a plain, white sheet, but then I noticed the flag we have that usually goes out on the lawn. Inspiration hit me.
I'm not trying to make any kind of political statement with these shots, just thought it would look neat.
The Treasury Guards Flag. "When Booth leaped to the stage, his spur caught on a flag decorating the President's box. Booth fell heavily and broke his leg. Conflicting testimony describes it as this regimental flag hanging in front of the post or an American flag draped around the box. Best evidence points to this flag." If you look carefully on the right edge of the flag, at the same height as the handicapped lift controller, there is a rip that is supposed to be where Booth's spur caught on the flag.
Cubana, the flag carrier of the caraibic State, leased several DC-10s during the '90 to operate flights to Europe. Most of them (from AOM) were wearing double titles, having Cubana title simply added to the full color scheme of the AOM aircrafts. At least a couple operated with Cubana only title.
TU-TAM (c/n 46892 l/n 204, series -30) belongs to AOM and were leased from November 1992 to July 1993. Slide taken at MEX, the aircraft still wear AOM tail logo.
