All through the BLM lands in Wyoming is oil. It's made access to the remote reaches of these places possible, but it's also altered the landscape in many ways.

There have "always" been road through these places, of course. Before the oil boom there were autoways. Before the car, there was the railroad, and before that were immigrant trails following Native American trails (here, Shoshone-Bannock and Eastern Shoshone).

This also means that some roads (the road to oil rigs) are improved, while the others are abandoned.

And this makes maps almost useless. The road you're on may seem to lead to where you want to go, but if it's not one used by an oil company, it might not. I had two just fizzle out on me as the map urged me onward into a wide vastness of sagebrush and grasses, where even the faintest of ruts could hardly be disserned. All within five miles of my destination, which I was never able to reach.

They are growing up but still have not fully grown their adult feathers, so look a bit scruffy still. I have only counted these five of the original 13 or 14, so those others may have died or they belonged to other parents.

In Laguna Beach, we don't have just ordinary benches, we have local artist-designed benches. This one in front of Hotel Laguna is from John Alabaster. He created this is 2004 and says, "My primary goal is to make art. I want to convey the nuance and mystery of art that compels and engages the residents and visitors to our city."

This guy is a lizard, not a snake. Notice the front and rear legs! We occasionally see them at Airlie, and they're very interesting to observe.

My first attempt at solving Bruce's "challenge". It's impossible to do with cheese slopes, but cheese graters are, according to Bricklink, 18° -- half the proper angle of a five-pointed star's point. That's perfect! I even have a bunch of those!

In theory, this mosaic isn't gappy. Don't you just love how perfectly Lego works, hypothetically?

The problem is, cheese graters are actually more than 18°, so this doesn't work. Though it kills the star, I'm sort of digging this kind of gappiness -- reminds me of one of my favorite mosaics.

Also, why has my build output slowed to an occasional crawl? Because COLLEGE. This star, among other things I won't show you yet, was made while listening to an online lecture. Just so you guys know what I'm up to.

Lonnie: I say, I say, I say!

Les: Not you again!

Lonnie: My dustbin's absolutely full with toadstools.

Les: How do you know it's full?

Lonnie: 'Cause there's not mushroom inside.

So happy all stars finally lined up for this shot to happen!! =) It took me about five years from the time Cathay started scheduling this flight to get the picture I wanted ! A Summer Sunday evening, westerly winds, southern runways closed, enough traffic to avoid a last minute 27L assignment or request, no delay at Heathrow due to Covid enabling an early arrival, and just a few perfectly-timed minutes of pure sunshine despite the many intertwined layers of clouds rolling in!!!
