Dear Flickr-friends, I want to thank you all for your interest in my photos, your comments, invites and and and....

I wish you a wonderful springtime 2008!

Most of the Canada geese around here have flown North for spring. The geese that are left are pairing up and getting ready to mate and build nests. Here's one of a pair, enjoying our nice, spring snow that came on the first day of spring.

Yes, today is the first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere; the vernal equinox. Daylight and Darkness are about equal, with daylight continuing to increase until the Summer Solstice in June. What better image to represent spring than a group of bright yellow daffodils! I wish I could say that this image was taken from my garden, but it is actually from my visit to Longwood Gardens. Amazing display of spring flowering bulbs among other things at Longwood. I will be posting some shots from my visit this week. Mostly the rare Himalayan Blue Poppy. No, I have not gone mad and switched from birds and wildlife to flowers. I do enjoy macro photography from time to time, and what better subject than flowers (well, actually insects may be better)!

Happy Spring to those in the Northern Hemisphere!

The hand embroidery on this dress is just beautiful! Love!!!

I am having to remove everything connected to the coronavirus, or have my account terminated!! I have just found the following Flickr mail. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I don't spam - I thought spam was only something you send out to thousands of people, and I send nothing. I don't give Faves at all, I definitely don't do excessive commenting as you will all totally agree; I do my tags very carefully; I can't see how my titles or descriptions could be deceptive, etc. I don't understand why I can't mention the coronavirus under photos from my archives. The info I add is about virus cases in Canada and is mainly just for my own records. Guess I will have to put the changing virus case numbers in a Word document and delete them from Flickr. Feel sick to my stomach over this, as I spend a lot of time on my Flickr photostream, trying to make it the best I can.

A few days ago, 30 March 2020, was a day I had been looking forward to - to finally finishing the huge task of sorting, editing and posting 1,161 photos from our amazing birding trip to South Texas in March 2019. Having spent exactly one year doing this, it feels rather strange to be digging into my archives for images to upload.

So, for now, back to the archives. For each photo, I will use the same description that I added under a different, already posted image from the same day.

"This photo is from about three months ago, so the owl in this photo is not one of the very recent sightings closer to home. After a long day out at Frank Lake on Saturday, 19 March 2016, and then checking the upcoming weather forecast, Sunday, 20 March, looked like it was going to be the only decent day of the coming week. Of course, we all know that weather forecasts can change. So, my alarm clocks were all set ridiculously early, though I still left home a bit later than I had intended, and I took myself NW of the city again to see if I could see an owl.

Just a handful of friends were there and we got a few moments of great views of this Great Gray Owl, including when it was down on the ground during a failed attempt to catch a Meadow Vole. I think it took all of us by surprise when it flew and landed near to us. During the rest of the time, I did see an owl fly off into the trees a couple of times, but the rest of the time was spent waiting and chatting with my friends. Patience .....

While we were waiting, someone spotted a beautiful male Mountain Bluebird way down the road. I am pretty sure I had caught a quick glimpse of another Bluebird on my drive to my destination. Also, I seem to remember catching a quick sight of another one recently, but can't for the life of me remember where or when. It's always such a thrill to see a Bluebird, especially the very first of the season. That flash of bright blue takes one's breath away. Two beautiful birds to see on this first day of spring!

"Although the Great Gray Owl is the tallest American owl with the largest wingspan, it is just a ball of feathers. It preys on small mammals and has relatively small feet. Both the Great Horned and Snowy owls weigh half again as much, and have larger feet and talons. The oldest recorded Great Gray Owl was at least 18 years, 9 months old and lived in Alberta." Spring has arrived!!

According to ancient tradition, today, Feb. 1st, is the first day of spring. The equinox is considered to be Mid-Spring, the heart of spring, and the end of April brings us the end of spring.

Today is the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox, a time of fertility after the frozen days of winter. So, let's celebrate the coming of spring and and the coming of offspring in wild animals, plants, and fungi! Happy Spring, everyone! Find some way to celebrate this time of the year.

SPRING EQUINOX - March 20th, 2015

DAFFODIL (Narcissus)

noun, plural noun: daffodils

This picture was taken in my garden

Birth flower for the month of March.

The daffodil is a symbol of rebirth - a sign of the new beginnings.

Traditionally an Easter flower.

A bulbous plant that typically bears bright yellow flowers with a long trumpet-shaped center (corona).

These flowers are beautiuful in a bouquet to bring happiness and joy.

Daffodils can also be given to someone as a token of forgiveness or as token of appreciation for their honesty.

*****Never give a single daffodil, as bringing a single daffodil into the house will bring misfortune.

Always give a bunch to ensure happiness

I appreciate each and every visit, comment and fave here on my little corner of the world as seen through my lens.

While a freshman in College (over a decade ago) I saw a girl on the train reading that book. Fell in love with the title then & there. Back then being too busy with work & school I stopped reading non math and science books only for English & Philosophy classes. Now I found it again, and had hungry desire to read it!!!

Today is, according to my kids, the first day of Spring. Hooray! I wanted to create a 'spring' picture which wasn't my usual flower macro.

PS. There are now no Cadbury's Mini Eggs left. At all.

Happy first day of Spring 2020 - the deadline filing Canadian income tax has been postponed to June 1!

It was a foggy morning down by the cliffs. Wildflowers are blooming and the place was crawling in art students, vector control, and surfers.

I took quite a few snowdrop images today but I was not pleased with them. Thankfully these snowdrops will open a little more so I will return to take again.

First day of Spring! Went back to check on the red-tailed hawk nest. Saw the male circle overhead then fly away. About 30 minutes later mom popped up with a field mouse in her beak, likely brought to her by the male. Great news as I'm sure she was feeding it to new little ones! Very windy. About 50 yards away and 50 feet high in a tree, had to crop, but thrilled to know the eggs have hatched. :-) Will go back from time to to time to check on things. Red tailed hawks mate for life.

Yes, today is the first day of Spring, but the World Down Syndrome Day took presidents over Spring for my photo for today.

Spring is Springing everywhere and the sun made a delightful return to make it even better.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

We had a nice snow on the first day spring. At this point, it'd snowed around 2" and ultimately got to 6". Here's a woman walking at Cherry Creek State Park.

Not sure what these are but these dainty blue wild flowers sure added a soft touch of color growing along one of the trails at Dauset Trails Nature Center.

I most certainly wasn't happy to see & experience this snow shower on the way to work this morning. However, it warmed right up today & all this snow is gone.

Today is the first day of spring. Actually I'm from the south and totally can't stand this freezing cold weather of nyc(winter and spring), but I would say I'm crazy love nyc's four distinct seasons, each season has its own characteristics :)

The first day of spring was a beautiful day! It was 60 degrees, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. We shrugged off our winter jackets and spent the day gardening & grilling. We cleared away the fall debris and nestled there were our first snowdrops of the season. I should've posted this on 'the first day' ... but since I didn't ... and for those who are still patiently waiting for spring ... I give to you a portrait of spring.
