The Hyderabadis are kind courteous people ,and I shot the blue blooded Nawabs and the man at grass root level and they had one thing in common besides their love of Hussain , hospitality , khulus and respect that we call Athithi Devo Bhava .. guest is god in Indian cultural terminology, the azadar respects the zaireen and that is the crux of Moharam for among those who come to the majlis or farshe aza are the ladies of the Imams house the ladies that stood against the might of mighty Yazid.. and they say if you see the silhouette of three ladies its possible a mother a daughter and a little grand daughter might be the reflection of our pain that we call Ghame Hussain.
Wherever I went I was treated with humility and humility is the essence of Hussainiyat and the Imam did not bully his enemies he did not do what they did to him an his family so it hurts me when I see one Shia unnecessarily finding faults with the matam of another Shia .. heckling him abusing him ..and so I have kept away from Mumbai azadari completely .. my photography does not make me a Shia .. but what makes me human is the essence of respect for others and their faith.. I am lucky I was bought up very differently .. I have lived among Hindus Christians Anglo Indians Parsis Buddhists Sikhs Jains even Jews .. but their association did not mar my humanity or my love of Hussain.
My children my grand children follow the path of peace as taught by my parents..
I came to Hyderabad not merely to shoot pictures but to emotionalize what I saw what I felt , people who gave me shelter , and though I took limited sum of money I had to spend nothing on food .It was free Niyaz e Hussain.
I bought a bunch of memory cards and I still returned home with a unused amount of Rs 2000.
I should have not traveled by bus I am a diabetic , kidney stones but I had to get back to Mumbai my work my commitments , my responsibilities.
And today I am happy at heart on seeing my grand daughters Marziya Shakir and Nerjis Asif Shakir return from Lucknow after 25 days.
And they love me a lot.. I took Nerjis to the bazar and I realized she knows everyone shaking hands waving out to all the shop keepers .. this young street photographer waiting in the wings.
So shooting pictures and blogging are two different ends of a spectrum..
Luckily I am my own boss so I am able to upload my pictures without a Seth breathing down my neck.. and after I finish this Moharam lot I will post the pictures of a Hindu feast Chath Puja that I kept on hold because of Moharam..
I am trying not to shoot pictures till I finish this backlog of Hyderabad spiritual experience ..I did not visit Charminar area to meet a few Malang friends there was no time ...at all.
I came to the MET Grounds at about 7.15 am and walked for about 1.5 km , when Coach Surendra asked me to come and play and his boys than told me it was his birthday ,,I played strenuous tennis first with Coach Surendra Pawar than his boys Mangesh and Darshan ..later on Praful Tamble I was really tired and I have a problem on my feet .. a suspected corn I have put a corn cap but it is not much help..we celebrated Coach Pawars birthday ,,had I known earlier I would have bought him a gift..Mr Pawar has changed my life turned it upside down and I am only playing tennis to bring my blood sugar under control so far having just played for a month my blood sugar from 350 has come down to 137 fasting and 147 PP.
My diet is under strict control but I had prawn pulao .. but mostly it is two chappatis and dal or vegetable ,, I dont drink I dont smoke I dont eat junk food but in the mornings a few pieces of palak bhajiya that I bring home ,,,
And this was in the morning ,, at about 6 pm , I wore my breeches my keds and thought of completing my walk.. I walk average 5 km.. and again after 1.50 km Mr Pawar asked me to come in and this was a very heady session , with Mr Pawar and than Vish Sawant who made me run around the court non stop for 35 minutes and I thanked them both and walked out of the court to complete my walk...so this is a day in the life of a photo blogger ,, if I have work I avoid the evening walk.. wife walks after 8 after I come home,,
My son Asif Shakir who was a total couch potato has joined a gym and after namaz at the Bazar Shia mosque , he goes for his work out and walks too..
And before I forget a Muslim woman caught up with me on my walk in the evening , she is a mother of two kids and said seeing me playing she has enrolled both her school going kids from next month and might play tennis herself...,in the hijab,I simply told her Health is Wealth our health is our childrens Wealth..they need us and we have to be there for them..and I am happy that there are mothers grandparents playing tennis with their wards .
I am lucky I got this chance and realization very very late in life ,, my grandkids just love tennis ,,

These are natural agate or Akeek ,,I bought them many years at Ajmer from Kapil Aggarwal , a great devotee of Kwajah Garib Nawaz and a jeweller from Jaipur , he would set up his gemstone stall at Sola Khamba and we became friends ,I bought almost every size of this natural eye stone ,, for both my hands and made a huge heavy pendant of eyes too that because of the weight I wear sometimes only ..
I did not meet Kapil this year , but he visits Mumbai and supplies gemstones the the dealers at Bhendi Bazar ..he has come home too .. he wanted to set up a stall in Mumbai but it did not materialize .
This stone in the shape of the eye is highly holistic both to Hindus and Muslims , its very difficult to get this in good shape and form.
I bought a huge Tibetan Turquoise after Kapil mediated with another gemstone dealer to give it to me at a fair price .
I also got a Topaz colored Quartz 3800 carat its like a huge weight round my neck , it was on a silver chain , most of my silver jewelry I had to sell when bad times hit me a few years back..but I still have a very rare exotic collection of Sufi chunky jewelry.. each with a back story.
My wife miraculously goes to Karbala and Iran for Ashura Moharam every year but till date I never asked her to get me a gemstone ,,
These are a few frames of people that play tennis with me the first two are of Giselle and her father ..Giselle joined 'recently but plays good tennis very powerful strokes .
The other picture of Kshitij Jain and his doting father ..both father and son play tennis ..but Kshitij plays with us he is a natural player studying at MET ..he plays some great strokes too .
All of us encourage and love him he is not very out going but smiles when I shoot his pictures .
The other kid is Vedant his father Mehul a banker also plays tennis with us .
I first began shooting the Ganesha workshops at Ganesh Gully and Chinchpokli ,,many years back I was introduced to this form of cultural photography by my erstwhile Guru Shreekant Malushte sir ,, and I shot slides those days ..
And I continue shooting the Ganesha Workshops till date , but Parel Ganpati Workshop is the most happening place both the famous Khatu brothers are iconic sculptors and I have been shooting Parel for some years now.
Gnesh Gully near Lalbagh has several workshops and a few at Chinchpokli.
There are two workshops of Ganesha Workshops on Bandra SV Road , but I let my granddaughter Nerjis shoot it , she has been shooting this workshop on my camera since the age of 2.
I hardly use my camera not as passionately as I did once upon a time ,,and I was dead against using my phone as a camera ..but after I gave up the Blackberry and took the Mortorola G ,, I gradually began shooting pictures , I shot over 4500 images on this one phone .
I found carrying my DSLR a pain in the butt , unless I was to shoot a religious feast or some street event ..
I dont see movies at all , not even those that have my sartorial stamp.. I find the film world of cinema make believe and false ,, and despite being connected to Bollywood .
I did not even see the movie I acted in ..I am not a good actor ,,I dont watch TV or news though I did watch a few World cup cricket matches .
I dont read books I cant due to my diabetic condition and diminishing eyesight ,, the only news I read is from Hindustan Times and once a week Sunday Midday.
I dont mix around I dont socialize party , I keep to myself occupied with my flowerhorns and the java sparrows , the birds will chirp deafeningly to wake me up to feed and water them.
The flowerhorns see my shadow and begin jumping like crazy folks ,, once they are fed they move away.
And what really made life blissful was taking my granddaughter Nerjis to the Bandra Talao letting her feed the pigeons and shoot the ear cleaners ,,and she loves the Bandra skywalk but carrying her up the steep horrid steps was hard .. and the guys who designed the Bandra Skywalk stairway really took the public specially old folks for a ride including the politicians who passed the plan.. so the Bandra Skywalk is nothing but a wasted effort a white elephant ,,and forgive me but the Mumbai Manoos keeps quiet and loves getting fucked for the wrong reason they want others to fight their battle ,,and as the politicians know this they love kicking the public ass .. for the rich the Bandra Skywalk is nothing but a mode that they will never use ,, Rich people lead rich life ,, and who ever comes to power needs them so they are always well taken care of..
The poor and the poorest are doomed .. go to a kerosene shop see the long line of Muslim women Marathi Manoos waiting in the hot-sun for their kerosene quota ,,
Mumbai cops who think they are Gods gift to Mumbai , some of them using filthy language abusing and bullying the poor on the roads , imagine the treatment in the cop station..
Most of the Mumbai cops have no compassion or humanity , you have to prove your innocence even when you are not guilty , I know of many incidents ,,hope all this changes one-day.
So now I shoot fewer pictures I shoot videos ,,and most of the people street folks I shoot dont speak Hindi,, I have not yet mastered the art technique of shooting videos ,, but I shoot as is where is..

This was the second time I was meeting him , he brings sugar mixed with flour and places it near the palm trees and the ants come to nibble the stuff people who come to the Bandra Talao feed bread to the fish , grains to the pigeons and goats but this old Sufi monk feeds ants .. hardly talks..
Much of the mess is caused by the chicken trucks that have in the past smashed the garbage , today while shooting this the chicken truck laborers tried to intimidate me I think what is really needed is a security guard and a CC TV to nab the serial garbage throwers ..on the left side are handcarts and ragpickers drink openly thanks to the only hooch bar opposite the dump.
.
Drugaddicts have made this their adda and in good faith Bandra Municipality is hell bent on destroying Bandra Bazar Road,, I know you are sincere in your efforts but I have sent a video to Mr Sonia Gandhiji to show her how the Congress corporator has done nothing for this area .. he does not seem to be interested at all,..But as your party is part of Progress and Development of Bandra Bazar Road where you live to does need your personal attention .. I have stopped tagging Ms Poonam Mahajan ji she is not interested in responding to my tweets ..and I think I made a big mistake voting for her in Lok Sabha elections ,,as a senior citizen and not a eunuch I thus voice my concern in the area where I live too..And obviously for her Worli is more important than Bandra Bazar Road and other Bandra areas slum pockets gone to seed ..
After one year I dont see much change in your government ,, It looks like you are all the other side of the same coin,,,
Forgive me but I back what I say with proof pictures and videos I have no ulterior motive I belong to no political party , but I am a Bandraite and I feel the pain..
I have been documenting you life your social activities your clean image , you sincerity honesty and your love for humanity .. I think you should Ashisji put a serious thought to it make Bandra Bazar Road a perfect peaceful place and a role model for other suburban areas ..
Sadly Mr Chimpu Kapoor does not live in our areas his tweets would have added strength to our belief ..
And you are the only celebrity in our area ,,we have no Salman Khan or Sharukh Khan ..and honestly who will ever come to live here ..outside your Friend Office at Bandra Reclamation is another horrible garbage site and shanties that have mushroomed on the lane that leads to your office ,,,I see it with my camera but I am sure you see it too ,, And if our CM Mr Davendar Fadnavis visits your house will he not see it too,, please give a serious though we wont you for more than 5 years..
And one day when you do become our CM I am sure you will read the writings on my wall as a concerned resident of Bandra Bazar Road
Thanks
Firoze Shakir

Your poetry gives much to ponder and examine. Well done with this set, you were obviously inspired. I think you two should collaborate on a book through Lulu perhaps, but that is my opinion. Still you match to his shots and both are beautiful to take to heart and it may make a difference. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" is often my thought process .......if it's worth the expression. And this is.

This is one stretch in Bandra it starts from the Jain Mandir till Anjuman E Islam girls school.
It is a huge massive shopping market on the roadside it attracts the poor and the middle class .
Vegetable hawkers fish hawkers close to a few mutton chicken shops .
They are mixed communities living working here but the buyers are mostly predominantly Muslims and that is why you see many Muslim beggars a lot of blind crippled beggars ..there is an entrance to a cluster of buildings lined with Muslim beggars .
As it is very crowded in the day time I manage to shoot images of beggars .
At the further end beyond the Jain Mandir is a long road that leads to another famous shoping area with municipal town house market called Bandra Bazar I stay on one end of this area that is opposite Bandra Reclamation .
