This morning wife and I set out to pay our salaams to the Holy Saint Hazrat Abbas before we leave for Mumbai.
This iconic Dargah is a place of succor spiritual solace for the Shias of Lucknow it is cosmically bound to them in pain sorrow happiness joy .
When I married my wife here in Lucknow and after the nikah performed by late Kalbe Abid sab we came here as husband and wife and took our strength from this house of hope and plenty.
This morning when we reached the Dargah parents of a 15 year old child were invoking the Holy Saint she was in great pain some liver ailment I took the father aside and offered him financial help for her treatment and medication he was not accepting it but when I took the name of Holy Saint he politely accepted my humility and this is Lucknow where one parents pain becomes our own I am crying as I write this there was another mother with a grown up son he had fits and she bought him to the Dargah first my wife took her aside did the needful ..and I am saying this if we can help others in their time of need that itself is godliness .
Dargah Hazrat Abbas is one place that adds hope where no hope existed .
I shot a video and memories of this winter chill peace hope humanity .
Happy morning our last one in Lucknow we head back to the city of our dreams Amchi Mumbai .
I met him in the morning after my 9 km Walk I bought some green red boras for Rs 10 my only junk indulgence .
He sells all this at the Bandra Bazar in the mornings earlier during the jackfruit season he sold jackfruit pieces on this cart .
I have been shooting him and his brothers since a long time and all this boras raw imli avla bring my school days when we had no money in our pockets and a few of our well off friends bought and shared this with us including the famous buddi ka bal.
That bhaiya at our school was a very nice humble guy he liked us a lot and in the evenings he sold his stuff at Strand Cinema corner opp the Irani hotel of old Sunlight of Asia I think ...his brother too was a good guy ..these are old memories of my school days I still buy boras avlas which freaks my wife from Lucknow .
But I can't resist it once in a while ..so I shoot this guy in Bandra and revisit my school days .
We have been friends since the early 80 s when Narottamdas was assisting the Hare Rama Hare Krishna Temple .ISKON in designing the outfits of the deities ..and we kept in touch..
But actually it is here at Juhu Beach we meet once a year when we both come to shoot the Marriammen Feast ,, and after that for a whole year we dont see each other ,,Narottamdas does not fail to come for this event .as his domestic help is a Tamil from Nehru Nagar slums Juhu
Thanks to Venus security , there was not much overcrowded moments within the pandal, their lady boss and their boys and girls kept the crowds in good control..I think they did a tremendously good job at the pandal on Visarjan day , the moment Raja moves from the Pandal to the gates outside .. I was lucky enough to trail behind him comfortably , once I reached outside I was swamped mercy of the crowds ..and I salute those brave hearts who wait for hours to get the shot of the Raja at the gates .
But I preferred to shoot the Arti and the Raja , perhaps I was compensating for missing the Press Darshan on the 6 th ,, I reached after the gates had shut... two years in a row. Last year I was caught up shooting Lewis Hamilton at Kurla and reached late for the Press inauguration of Raja.
Anil Kapre their in house photographer helped me get a few good shots and so did Sumit Kale too.. Sumit gave me a buch of coconuts as prasad for my friends , and it was this extra weight in my bag that made me more difficult to move.
While leaving I shot the Raja from the Shiv Sena stand and Shyam Kabre made it possible I still have to upload those pictures .. I have been uploading ths lot till 3am.
Shyam Kabre is a wedding event photographer from Lalbagh and a friend of my friend Datta Sawant now on a holiday in England. Shyam took me to the only restaurant at Lalbagh open on Visarjan day I had a cup of tea , than decided to walk the bridge to Parel but after walking some distance gave up as the gravel was hurting my barefeet .. I walked back to Lalbagh and finally got a cab at Parel junction near the Ganesha workshops ..I got off at Sion took a ricksha to Bandra tired pooped . after buying bloodworms for Marziyas fish tank walked back home.
Nerjis has just got up and watching my Lalbagh visarjan pictures,,,,I bought Lalbagh Chya raja caps for all my 3 grand daughters ,, gift from Sumit Kale and his dad ..
I shoot this festival barefeet and every devotee wants his goat to be sacrificed first , tempers run high , the crowds restless , the area where the sacrifice takes place is a two way entry exit point in an out of the Nehru Nagar slums a predominantly migrant Tamil diaspora .
The other end is the sacrifice of the poultry , desi murga or cock.. and at the corner of the Temple women are offering Pongal and floral tributes ,,and neem leaves limes .
And in this atmosphere I shot and documented a ritual .. I shot this as a photo journalist blogger and this is their ancient traditional heritage .
I shot for two hours and returned home my feet soaked in goats blood ,,
