Sorry for the extended absence....busy with life. I have a few shots from trips in December...but really didn't get to take as many shots as I would have liked due to the perils/joys of the family vacation. Here's another shot from the Holiday version of Illuminations....Enjoy! Thanks for looking!!
#FireworksFriday
Shot from the pathway to the Boardwalk. Probably the loudest finale of any fireworks show I've ever experienced. I spoke to some CM's before shooting this and they said sometimes this would set off car alarms in the DHS parking lot. Thanks for all the views, faves, and comments.
After the Global Countdown goes around World Showcase Lagoon, Auld Lang Syne plays to epic fireworks (but you can't hear it because of explosions and people with paper horns). It is one of the more beautiful scenes at EPCOT, and the last thing you can photograph in this fireworks set before the show goes apocalyptic and your camera shows nothing but white!
Thanks again to Don Sullivan for letting me borrow his fancy ND filter kit for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8!

Happy Fireworks Friday everyone! Here's a shot from Echo Lake of Symphony in the Stars. This is an absolute favorite fireworks show of mine, and can't wait for the next version to come out in June!

For those wondering, capturing the entire show of IllumiNations in a single shutter release is possible. It just takes 10 stops of ND. Happy Friday, and happy Halloween!
Japan is by far one of the most popular locations to watch and photograph Illuminations from in EPCOT. One rainy night last year we decided to watch from the balcony, but not in the usual corner spot, but further down near the end of the restaurant. I’ve been sitting on it for a while because I wasn’t sure it worked, but I think I may have finally gotten to the point where I like it. Where is your favorite spot to watch Illuminations from?
I've fallen off in my Flickr sharing this year, but it's #FireworksFriday and I'm looking forward to having another chance soon to gather some more Disney photos. For now, we'll go back to the beginning of the year, when I found a good spot to watch and capture Happily Ever After in the Magic Kingdom.
I've pretty well settled on shorter exposures, without a neutral density filter, for this show, so getting close enough to see the projections is important. This scene sets up well for that plan.
I am back from Disney with 993 photos on my memory card and 326 more on my phone. So, I have some editing to do. Be prepared!
Thanks for looking and have a great day! All the comments and favorites for my last few images have been greatly appreciated.
Festively decorated for the holidays, Echo Lake has been the popular place in Disney's Hollywood Studios to photograph Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam this Christmas season. During a recent visit to the parks, I wanted to take my out shot at capturing the show from that location. The only trouble was the night I was free to photograph the show I arrived at the park gates five minutes after closing time, while the show was already running. The good news was that I was still allowed to enter the park and the only other photographer on Echo Lake that evening was working for Disney Photopass, so I still found a place on the rail by the lake and returned with some useful images.
Any scene in IllumiNations where there are bursts from the edges of the lagoon tend to end up in my keeper list. This particular shot usually is hard for me to get, as it tends to occur right before the bright shots of tungsten shells at the very end of the show. I always try to go for it, though, because of those color bursts in the sky. In a show that can sometimes seem very blue and white, bursts of red like that are always welcome!
Here is Illuminations: Reflections of Earth in Epcot at the Walt Disney World resort in Florida, as seen from the FastPass+ viewing area last month. I haven't posted photos in a while, but since it's #WorldPhotographyDay (or #WorldPhotoDay) and #FireworksFriday, I suppose it's time to share again.
I've shared a similar photo to this one in the past, but this time I tried using Lightroom's Spot Removal tool to edit out the blue cell phone screens that usually appear in the foreground of my fireworks photos that include crowds. I think it worked reasonably well.
This was taken last year during our annual Pixelmania gathering. Thanks for looking and have a safe and Happy Halloween.
It should come as no surprise given my recent kick of laziness/added-difficulty-factor that I tried to capture the entirety of the Peace on Earth tag in one shot. I didn't succeed; this is missing the last 5 or so seconds. However, I think with a little bit higher aperture, I could pull the shot off. I'll be sure to attempt it again soon, as I really like this location for IllumiNations as well, a shot I botched that evening.
Love the greens, purple and oranges of this part of Illuminations! The colors are so vivid and very different from what you see in most fireworks shows.
Thanks for looking!

I still haven't decided the best way to photograph Happily Ever After, but won't be long before I have the chance to see the show again in person!
This is one of my new favorite fireworks views. I can't wait to go back on a clear night, expecting the fireworks, and set up early and get a great shot!
No, this isn't a shot from Holiday Wishes, although the title and colors certainly fit. Another shot from my night in New Fantasyland.
I still can't get over how incredible it was to watch IllumiNations while it was still light out. The fact that it was blue hour (and the first couple shots from the show, forthcoming, have a lot more blue in them) really makes these shots stand out to me in my portfolio. Happy Friday, all!
Sometimes I camp out hours in advance for a good location to shoot IllumiNations. Sometimes I do it in between dinner and dessert!
This is a re-edit of a shot I hand-merged earlier this year. The hand merge took about 3 hours to complete. After talking with Don Sullivan on the 3rd of July, he taught me a new technique with better results, and it took about 3 minutes. So here is the end-result that I originally wanted.

Starting to dig into the bottom of the barrel with these pictures unitl my next trip. Pretty wild 23 second exposure taken back in Feb
Do pictures of fireworks during blue hour ever get old? No, I think not. This was taken July 3rd, and is four shots layered on one another for greater depth of fireworks. Happy Friday!
Happy Fireworks Friday! We love looking for the off-the-normal fireworks spot lately. Not only do they provide unique viewing locations, but they're much quieter than the popular spots, so the kids can run around and have fun while watching!
Thanks to some extra DVC points from my sister's in-laws I was able to stay in Bay Lake Tower with a view of the Magic Kingdom two years ago. Since we were traveling with my not-quite 8-month old nephew it meant I was in the hotel room earlier than usual on a couple nights, which meant that I got to see Wishes from a different point of view. It also meant setting a two different cameras on tripods and shooting the show from different perspectives. For this scene, near the end of the show, I like this view.

One of my favorite parts of the Global Countdown at EPOCT are the miniature fireworks shows that occur behind each World Showcase Pavilion. Beyond being something you never see anytime else, these shows are set to music from the original IllumiNations show. If you've never seen fireworks set to Ride of the Valkyries, my suggestion is to run, don't walk.
This is a six-shot composite, as each show is approximately 30 seconds long, and required an ND3 to properly expose, except for Italy because my aperture was off and I botched it.
A throwback photo back from 2013 during an amazing full week of 4th of July fireworks all around the Walt Disney Resort as part of the Limited Time Magic year. What a week for photographing fireworks. Nothing like that ever since. Noting beats watching perimeter fireworks from Seven Seas… except watching perimeter fireworks on Main Street!
My original intention was to use my ultra-wide here, but due to weather conditions, I kept it in the bag. Still, I got a shot I really liked, and I can't wait to try it again when weather is better!
I'll be the first to admit that I'm NOT a fireworks photographer. BUT, being in Disney and constantly being around some of the best displays I've ever seen, I figured I'd adapt and give my go at capturing them!
This shot was at Epcot standing atop the restaurant at the Japan pavilion. I stole a page from Cory Disbrow's book and used this location as my "introductory trial" into Illuminations Of Earth fireworks.
All in all, I think it turned out good! I'm personally a fan of how each country's (that's pictured) shell is exploding towards the center of the lagoon, while the fireworks in the center are aimed upwards as if there's a dancing display of light and fire.
How'd I do?
