The Gävle goat is a classic landmark that is erected every December. It has become a tradition to burn the made-from-straw goat down, even though it is (of course) illegal. Every year, bets are made on how long the goat will last. Security measures such as fireproof materials, double fencing, and a round-the-clock guard, are taken to ensure the goat stays untouched.
Today's story and sketch by me 1516, is a harrowing tale of myself and Sasskawash, my pet Budahunga Banana Forest Deer, on a test flight, of my Holiday personal mobility scooter. This sketch is just moments before I realized I had forgotten over the last year how to safely slow the scooter for a safe landing. We were dropping from two thousand feet, at around the speed of gravity, which is about One Hundred Twenty Miles An Hour. Luckily we missed the Punk'n Spider that was watching the entire crash that was in progress. Luckily I was wearing my Fireproof Santa Overcoat, and underneath two energy absorbing ugly sweaters. Sasskawash was very lucky to have flown out of the scooter upon impact, rolled two hundred yards, and only suffered minor cuts and abrasions. And I don't think Sasskawash will ever get back into the scooter. Until next time Tata the Rod Blog.

The former mine for Ōya stone (大谷石), a beautiful, lightweight and fireproof stone used in architecture. Probably the most famous example is the former imperial hotel. The mining left enormous caverns underground. A few can be visited.

480 Van Brunt Street at Beard Street stands a block long red brick warehouse that is now home to a Fairway supermarket on its ground floor and residential and commercial tenants on the upper for floors. It was built for William Beard in 1869, the developer of Erie Basin, as a waystation to store goods coming and going from ships.
The building was acquired by the Brooklyn Wharf and Warehouse trust in the late 1800s, and after that quickly went bankrupt, by the New York Dock Company in 1901. It was a bonded warehouse, meaning that it was a secured building in which the government allowed goods to stored or manipulated duty free - the duty, or tax, was paid when the goods left the building.
The building, which has had several names over time, was used early on as a place to sort and store cotton. The building was built with thick brick walls to be fireproof, and has withstood several large cotton fires. In 2006, after a renovation by the O'Connell Organization, Fairway opened its doors.

A northwards view across Victoria Tower Gardens towards the Palace Of Westminster, showing the Victoria Tower, the largest and tallest of the Palace's three towers at 98.5 metre (323 ft.) Originally named "The King's Tower" because the fire of 1834 which destroyed the old Palace of Westminster occurred during the reign of King William IV, the tower was an integral part of Charles Barry's original design, of which he intended it to be the most memorable element. The architect conceived the great square tower as the keep of a legislative "castle" (echoing his selection of the portcullis as his identifying mark in the planning competition), and used it as the royal entrance to the Palace and as a fireproof repository for the archives of Parliament. Victoria Tower was re-designed several times, and its height increased progressively; upon its completion in 1858, it was the tallest secular building in the world.

The Rookery

Seen here is Burnham and Root's spiral staircase, which rises to the top of the building in the structure's light well.
Original to the building, the stairs date to the Rookery's completion in 1888.
The large windows admit a tremendous amount of light into what in other buildings is a dark and claustrophobic space.
Built after the great Chicago fire of 1871, the Rookery was designed to be fireproof. There are no exterior fire escapes, as this spiral staircase was intended to provide an escape in case of fire.
In contrast to the white and gold surfaces of Frank Lloyd Wright's 1905 renovation, the stairs feature Burnham and Root's dark and elegant copper-clad cast iron. I'm particularly fond of the arabesque traceries at the tops of the windows.

Fantasy is not my strongpoint. Most of my experience of the genre is from He-Man cartoons, Fighting Fantasy books and the Lord of the Rings movies... But I love these guys though, I think I like Bria the most, maybe she's the least cliché of the group?

I was walking with my wife when we started to listen losts of festival sounds and explosions. It was a "correfocs".
The "Balls dels diables" is a dance tradition originating from Catalonia. Over the course of centuries, the "balls de diables" have evolved into the modern day "correfocs" (fire runs), and nowadays, participation in the form of processions and correfocs is an essential part of the main celebrations in many towns and cities.
People dressed up in devil suit with fireproof clothes dance and make lots of sounds with firecrackers through the town's streets.
I wasn't able to get near because I wasn't wearing the correct clothes and it could be dangerous. If I only had had a wicker hat I would had gone inside... being able to be in the middle of this dance and take some photographs there would be amazing.
You can see that the ISO is too hight, but it was very dark and I was trying to get some headshoots, they were only iluminated with little torches. Then they lighted the firelights and start running and shouting. The only thing I thought was close the aperture fast enough to capture that moment.
